guys, guys, it's not gambling that's the problem - it's match fixing (or bet fixing)

No it is getting involved, in anyway, with betting / gambling on rugby. As refs we can bet on the horses or football if we like. However, stay clear of anything to do with betting on rugby.

It is a little like players and drugs. It is betterfor a player to get any drug, prescription or not, run past the authorities list BEFORE taking it. Then you don't get caught out.

    It realy is very simple.

yes, I had a tenner on England to reach the RWC Final - I should have heeded your advice!

But seriously : it's perfectly OK for me to bet on England's performance in the RWC, or indeed Quins in the premiership.

Clearly I WOULDN'T bet on matches in the Middlesex Merit Table Division Three.

I looked at this a number of years ago in RL, total points in matchs and whether the refs had any bearing on how many points were scored.

Over 3 seasons stats there was no discernible trend where one ref was noticeably above or below the average total points scored.

AS regards betting on rugby as a ref, absolutely no harm in having a punt on any game as long as you have no input into the outcome in any way.
Courage is knowing what lies on the other side and still opening the door !

You are entitled to take that view. I would simply avoid it completely. I guess it depends on how much contact you have with the senior bods. Here in Wales, being a much smaller country, we are closer knit and therefore I'd not bet on anything in the game. I guess it's a case of if they are in my 'phone book their level is out of bounds for me. Squeeky clean is the best way for me. There is always someone wanting to cause trouble. Why give them ammo?

I'm not sure this is transferable. The referee's whistle and kicking penalties to score points are far, far more influential in Union. If I had the spare time, I'd be doing my own bit of research along these lines. The only other field sport I can think of where the officials have such a major impact on who gets to score and when is baseball.

There seems to be a lot of animosity to the op for the question (with one specific exception). I fail to see why some people are being rude on this topic or why the question is a problem.

The question was about sourcing statistics, not inviting people to gamble or do anything unethical. If you don't like the premise, don't contribute but there is no need to be rude to someone who is asking for information and has been very polite in subsequent posts.
