Taff, Reg 12 is not in fact very specific. It does describe a (I think the phrase is) "reference stud" that has sizes both for length and diameter. However the main thrust of the reg is that a stud is legal if it does not do more damage than the reference stud in the tests. Thus Adidas blades were accepted, and there are some more studs that do not follow the construction of the reference stud, but which manufacturers say are rugby ready - eg the part plastic part metal studs on many Canterbury boots.

Now, I agree it would be helpful if WR took a bit more active part in telling us what studs are OK - they do this for body armour and for head guards.

As to the stud check, what I am looking for is worn/sharp edged studs, missing studs or split soles on boots. If the boots are in good condition, the I really think it will be the manufacturer and not the ref who is in the dock for any claim.

it's not specific though - it says
“The shape and dimensions of other stud/cleat designs should be such that they present a no greater risk of injury to another player than the stud/cleat shown in figure 1. Tests A and B iv can be used to assess comparative performance.”

Can you provide a less valid statement than that? It is so invalid, it can't even be fact checked to prove it is invalid.

a senior referee in Singapore who has refereed at international level tells me that he and the rugby community in Singapore are familar with these studs and they have not had any problems.

    Is that better?

My sisters friend's Uncle knew a referee who knew someone who knew a referee who had said these were OK, so we should all be fine now.

Based on information provided, Paule23 has more than 1 sister. Between his sisters, they have a least 1 friend with at least one uncle. This uncle knows at least on referee.... I can go on

But Dickie E., do you know all of sisters of Paule23 ?
