Default IRL-ARG: Playing on the ground

I only caught the last few minutes of the game, but...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=i1I9uYkBGqA

Black 17 tackled on the line, green counter-ruck over and go for the ball (needing only to pick up and dot down for a try), black 17 plays the ball on the ground, rolls over the ball, then gets up and makes a couple of metres to set up a ruck that leads to a 80m linebreak. And all that less than 2m from the ref (Raynal?).

It looks to me like a PT + YC. Am I missing something, or was it just a brain fart?

that's akin to watching a pro golfer 4-putt from 3 feet!
it's a shocker but curiously makes us mortals feel better that the "best" can fck-up the basics!

I loved the look of some of the irish players. they were so confused they didn't get the turnover/PK I think they were even questioning what they just thought they might have seen and so didn't question it.

A referee missing it after 80 minutes of high-paced intense reffing, is unfortunate but understandable: I know I've come out with decisions where I'm completely gassed that in retrospect were... controversial.

But the whole team of 4 missing it?

I don't believe a lack of fitness can cut it at this level. If that was the referee's reason for missing it, I would suggest he is stood down from top tier international rugby until he can keep up for the full 80 minutes. Anyone can miss something for a range of reasons, but at that level, it shouldn't be due to poor fitness. These guys are professional and should have no excuses on that front.

Hmm... there's a .gif format clip here:

And I agree that fitness shouldn't be a factor - looking at the ref it's not, either.

OMG, there are about three different penalties there by Black.
Not releasing to a man on his feet.
Playing the ball on the floor.
Getting to his feet without releasing.

    Handling in the ruck.
Not moving away from the ball.
    Sealing off the ball.
    Intentionally offending...

For me, the first offence is Green 2 not releasing the tackled player!
