I heard a couple of years ago that they were deliberately using the Six Nations to give 'second tier' referees more exposure, hence not giving the likes of Barnes, Owens and Garces as many games as they could.

The only name that I notice missing is Mitrea - and, not meaning to be unkind, I don't think that's because he doesn't need more development.

Anyone specifically you mean who "isn't" on the list? From England is no JPD a surprise?

Like much of pro rugby this is done on a four year cycle. Immediately after a RWC the next generation are tested with their first big games, and that phase lasts for a couple of years.. then WR start to home in on their likely RWC squad, droppong the outliers and giving the probables as much game time as possible

Just as happens in the playing squads really

We are still in the first phase .. for now

I understand from a friend of a friend the JPD dropped from World Rugby due to "differences of opinion re attitude" between himself and management.

    Arrow Re: 6 Nations Referees

    Hello,
If we take on board DocY’s point about giving weaker refs exposure to the next level up. Notable absence, no Scottish ref,(Mike Adamson) no woman ref either, (Alhambra Nievas and Joy Neville) despite claims that women were to get more exposure/fast tracked. Cannot help feeling that the deep plush pile carpet is slowing the Blazers down altogether these days. (Perhaps afraid to spill their GnT) Drop one of the French refs to give the Scots a fair crack of the whip. And leave one (or two) of the Southern Hemisphere refs down under to give the women a run out at Senior International level.
Joy Neville becomes 1st woman to ref a European match; https://www.rte.ie/sport/rugby/2017/...-club-fixture/

Summary of Phil’s extend list of match officials. Number of matches in the middle per Union.
    FFR (6 games)
    Gauzere 2
    Raynal 1
    Poîte 1
    Garcès 2

    WRFU
    Owens 2

    IRFU
    Lacey 1

    RFU
    Barnes 2

    Southern Hemisphere Unions (4 games)
    Jackson 1
    O'Keeffe 1
    Peyper 1
    Gardner 1

So your argument is that Joy Neville, who will have done 1 European match should get a 6 Nations match?

referee of the year. If Barrett is arguably the best male player in the world and Portman the best female player, Neville must be the best referee in the world.

What about Mike Adamson? Surely he would benefit from getting a run out at the next six nations.

I agree, exposure to the 6 nations for Mike would aid his development as a Match Official
