IMO that is correct, hence "no biggie to me"

Well in veiw of the lack of a complaint / action from Garces. I would say that Garces and those privy to his ref mike etc were of the opinion that the facts were different on this situation. Of course it is not "a defence that Williams tried" because there is no case to answer.

In that case your original point did not make that clear to me.

if that is indeed the case, i am happy to go on record to say that i rescind my original post. i don't have access to the player's intentions, but i have no reason to doubt the accuracy of your post.

it wasn't intended as accusation, so i'm happy to consider my wording more carefully in future if it came across that way.

or it was a language barrier thing, reference M. Berdos in the 2009 Lions test "at least a yellow".

But if the general consensus is that this was a nothing incident, i'm happy to stop discussing it and the thread to be closed.
    Hi. I'm Barry Scott.

Let it go, or remind the player very firmly that speaking to an opponent in this way is not acceptable and he needs to be very careful to maintain his discipline for the remaining 9 minutes?

I will normally have a word, yes, but there are usually closer to 79 minutes left than 9!

TBH I think different referees will all be able to justify everything from no action to a penalty and possibly a card depending on their reading of the situation.

But (and hindsight is a wonderful thing) in this case there were no handbags so his 'no action' was enough.

Williams is a liability in terms of his "playing style" and "winding up" the other side is part of his remit. I'd rather he not play for Cardiff but there you go. However, I know of no issues he's ever had with a referee.

Wi the ref mike etc this would have been picked up. Any player found guilty of referee abuse should be severely dealt with or we are on a slipery slope.

I wouldn't. It shows a complete lack of respect to opponents and is therefore against one of the core values of the game. It might be different in TV land, but in my games that's going to be penalised with a strong word. Unacceptable.
