    That was a good example of a situation the writers of the guidelines weren't considering. Anything more than a penalty would show a lack of empathy for the game.

    It was a thing of nothing really.

    When the french scored just before halftime, Blue 14 was close to the touchline, Nigel Owens double checked with the TMO to see if there was any reason he could not award the try. On the replay we see only the tackler’s feet go in touch just before the line. At which point the try scorer has been released by the wouldbe tackler.
    Owen Farrell spoke to NO at this point seeking clarification and was sent packing. Not sure what was said, but along the lines of we are looking into it, go away. He then apologised to Farrell for his dismissive tone. Obviously they don’t teach referees to never ever apologise.
    "Sorry I was a bit snappy with you then," said Owens.
    But Farrell saw the funny side and quipped: "It's okay, you're the boss."
