    Default Referee Rankings

So, there are 14 refs in the 6N and 12 of them will be going to the RWC.
    (it's like masterchef)

I have had a go at guessing how the 14 rank in the eyes of WR, based on recent appointments, 6N appointments and - yes - my own opinion.

Here's the table - feedback welcome. I thought it might be fun to update this after every 6N game, see who goes up, and who goes down after each round.

I have shown their 6N appointment as it's a likely indicator of how high they rank in WR's eyes..

    Rank Ref 6N Game
    1 Wayne Barnes*(England) France v Wales *
    2 Jérôme Garcès*(France) Ireland v England *
    3 Nigel Owens*(Wales) England v France *
    4 Angus Gardner*(Australia) Wales v Ireland *
    5 Jaco Peyper*(South Africa) Wales v England *
    6 Ben O’Keeffe*(New Zealand)Ireland v France*
    7 Romain Poite*(France) Scotland v Ireland *
    8 Pascal Gauzere*(France) Scotland v Wales *
9 Nic Berry*(Australia) France v Scotland and England v Italy
    10 Luke Pearce*(England) Scotland v Italy *
    11 Matthew Carley*(England) Italy v France*
    12 Mathieu Raynal*(France) Italy v Wales *
    13 Paul Williams*(New Zealand) England v Scotland
    14 Glen Jackson*(New Zealand) Italy v Ireland *

    Arrow Re: Referee Rankings

This came up in an earlier discussion thread too. To be honest I don’t thing the opening night apppointment shows Wayne Barnes is their Number One choice. For me the Ireland v England clash in Dublin is THE match of the opening weekend. And they have a Frenchman in charge of proceedings.

Nic Berry is in charge of two games, that must be significant, surely. That and how often each contender appears in a team of four over the course of the Six Nations, right?

I agree that Ireland England is the #1 game.
Obv Wb isn't eligible for it

I think the #1 spot is (at the moment ) between WB and JG and i don't think there is much between them

NO is interesting . I perceive that he has knuckle down
He had a shock I reckon in the " Superman " game, where as well as that jibe there was also the handshake refusal .
I notice that since then he hasn't been in the press even once with bon mot or witticism . I think he has adjusted his approach. Good on him. Maybe he will come up on the rails

My other outside bet is Luke Pearce

What are the chance of Japan’s Shuhei Kubo, of getting a couple of pool matches in the RWC?

    Match #3 Garces

Mostly excellent, you can easily see why he is one of WR top two or three

    But three question marks
1 should have properly TMOd Ireland's first try
2 should have listened to the TMO for Mako's disallowed try
3 got confused with the maul with the two catchers ..

Overall : maintains position at #2

I thought Luke Pearce had a good game; there were a couple of question marks on the calls (around an allowed and disallowed Scotland try), I think his communication is excellent (as it was for Wales-Boks).

Not so sure. I wasn't all convinced by his management of the tackle/breakdown. Great communication, agreed.
