    Question Age Grade Sevens?

    I've got a U15 Sevens tournament this weekend - first 7's so keen to get that under my belt, and private schools comp so should be a decent standard, however I'm confused on how 7's laws will marry up with age grade regs (this is in RFU land and schools should be following age grade regs now).

    For example, in U15 age grade we have;

    • Uncontested line out (Jump but no contest in the air)
    • No more than 1.5m shove in scrum (unlikely in 7's?)
    • Sh stays in the middle (again unlikely in 7's)

    Any experience on how these are translated (or supposed to be translated to 7's), or do we just play straight up 7's? (I don't have the specific comp regs yet).

    TIA

    In the absence of any definitive answers etc, Id suggest you ref it as U15s 15 a side with any obvious 7s tweaks eg restart kicks after scores, sin bin timings etc

    I'd be thinking the same. If these kids are used to, for example, uncontested lineouts, if would be foolhardy to introduce contested lineouts at a 7s tournament.
    I, for one, like Roman numerals

    You would start with adult 7 a side Laws, and then overlay the U15 variations (so uncontested lineouts)

    I knew that there was an RFU Simplified Guide. It took much digging but finally found it through Google (not the RFU's own Search facility), hidden away:
    https://www.englandrugby.com/mm/Docu...ce_English.pdf

    The parent page may be a useful reference tool to keep, especially the Lineout FAQ:

    Be reasonable - do it my way.
