Well he was about the 4th player to make no attempt to stay on his feet (all of which would have been a PK). Not really sure his was any worse than the others and meriting a YC if theirs didn’t merit a PK.

That said - I am all in favour of seeing the ruck laws actually enforced

what you don't see is why Tupau did that. I'll see if I can find anything. The big issue for the ref was that it was well after the whistle.

EDIT: full game not yet available on youtube (why not?)

I agree , the wider picture ,,is the ref had blown his whistle .
The player who got cleaned out , was already on floor & in vulnerable position .
The ball had become unplayable , that ended up as a dead ruck ..
The clean out was a penalty for a few reasons .
No binding ,,,going past a dead ruck or tackle or whatever it was .
    Going straight to ground .
Poor play by yellow & card very well deserved
Whether he heard the whistle or not ,,it was a poor piece of play by yellow
( should also get cited )

it was pay back for Green 6 doing the same thing seconds before. Not an excuse, just a reason.

No problem with the penalty or YC but why has the ref waited so long to blow for the unplayable maul? The ball is clearly never going to come out and as a ref we should be aware if we allow situations like this to develop it increases the risk of foul play.

I hope Kearns gets sanctioned for his comments.
We don't need that in Rugby.

I thought the Ref was very quick to disregard a similar offence from green moments before the YC - despite the TMO pointing it out to him (Nah nothing in that" we're his words I think). Personally - I would have PK green (6 I think) for the no arms charge into the ruck, and then either reversed it for Tupau retaliating (probably YC too but not 100% confident on that).

FWIW - I thought it was pretty much as the whistle went rather than actually after the whistle.

He's been doing it for years and hasn't been sanctioned, I don't think he'll start getting in trouble now.
