The 50:22 rewards a team for violating a rugby principle of play: continuity. This is a bad idea on several levels.

It's already a highly unusual feature of rugby : that teams so often deliberately kick the ball out of play. I don't think any other sport is structured to reward teams for doing that .

I fear this will mean more of it

Indeed but an analogy is driving in the city vs driving in the country. In the city, you may expect more collisions by virtue of the number of cars on the road. However, an accident driving at higher speed in the country, is likely to be more serious.
I, for one, like Roman numerals

Don't see it as a reward as the kicking team trade possession for territory.

It is so ingrained in us, it's hard to see it as odd. But I don't think there is any other sport where teams will deliberately put the ball out of play numerous times during the game, both as an defending and attacking ploy.

Not saying it's bad thing, just rather odd, and distinctive feature of rugby ( and has a big impact on our ball-in-play stats)

The change to be trialled will give you territoy and possession , and will be quite attractive i think
