No game for me. Storm Dennis can go and happen to other people

Looks like all games in Midlands have been cancelled, so an afternoon of BTSport

    All Referees and Advisors

We have received advice from the Midlands Division Organising Committee Chairman (repeated below) concerning likely playing and travel conditions expected to be prevalent across the East Midlands area this weekend.
Following on from this the Executive have consulted and in light of the advice (concerning MDOC/RFU League matches at Levels 5 – 10) I need to advise you that the Executive of the EMRURS have resolved that ALL EMRURS appointments for Saturday and Sunday will be cancelled and the EMRURS will NOTbe appointing to any match in the EMRURS area on Saturday or Sunday.

The safety of our match officials is of paramount concern, and some officials were due to travel considerable distances to officiate within the society this weekend when the official advice from the Met Office with Amber warnings in place is not to travel.
If you are approached to officiate locally please let either Chris Rowan or myself know.

    ---------------------------------------------
From the Chairman on the Midlands Divisional Organising Committee

    Dear Colleagues,

it is Thursday evening and I have checked the local weather forecasts for this coming Saturday (15th Feb) in all 4 corners of the Midlands (Scunthorpe, Luton, Malvern and Whitchurch). It is apparent that, across the length and breadth of the Midlands, playing and travel will be problematic, if not dangerous on Saturday. Wind speeds of up to 60mph and general heavy rain are the order of the afternoon. Gusts of wind may be even greater. It is therefore necessary, for the sake of all participants, to advise the postponement of all league matches within the Midlands. The only exceptions to this would be where clubs in any league match, believe that locally conditions will allow both travel and play to take place safely for players officials and spectators. My view (as of 2230 on Thursday) is that this is most unlikely. It is possible that, where circumstances allow and clubs mutually agree, some matches could be played on Friday evening. This is to be encouraged. With regard to Sunday, this looks to be no improvement upon Saturday.

League Secretaries are asked to contact all their clubs ASAP in order to update them and re-arrange postponed fixtures for the Next Available Saturday. Please also advise clubs to inform referees and other match officials.

    Regards,
    Paul Kaminski

Both Clubs agreed to play the match ,and so it went ahead.

And what a cracking match it was, although toward the end when the rain and wind really started to come to the fore it did start to get scrappy.

Final score 20-15 and only 2 scrum resets and 10 penalties.

Well done them, and you. Hope that you dried out and warmed up quickly enough.

About half the matches in Dorset/Hants went ahead too. Clubs do not like their 'free' weekends being messed around by postponed matches.

This weekend I am mostly doing:-

Morley II v Doncaster Phoenix II

Yorkshire Merit Leagues - Premier lower 1/2

League split into top and bottom after Christmas.

Morley got beaten 114-0 first game if the season.

Midwest Refs AGM (I'm treasurer, so I have to go), should be interesting. Glad it's only a 500 mile round trip this year.
