AFIK the 4G is the latest iteration and it may have something to do with the substrate

No 4G pitches are authorised by World Rugby or the RFU to play rugby on. In fact 4G pitches don't really exist as yet.

Derby have a 3G pitch. 3G pitches have infill (rubber crumb) to help the fibres remain upright. 4G pitches have no infill, they have extra fibres to maintian rigidity, but they are not commercially available or authorised for use yet by the WR or FIFA.

I am continually being told that 4G pitches do not exist. What we have are developments of the original 3G pitches.

Not that it makes any real difference.

Jinxed myself again. NWI can't get a decent XV together, so they're forfeiting (that's three forfeits/cancellations out of seven matches). Taking MSOE @ Lewis Uni men instead.
