Default Ball played man laws or rules?

Following on from the offside or not question there seems to be an opinion that if you do not intentionally play the ball then it doesn't count.
Can anyone actually point me to a law on this?
What about fly hack by red, hits green and bounces to touch, line out green would be a difficult sell.
I know RL has specific rules about ball played man but I've never come across this in 50 years of RU.
    I'm really confused.

In your hypothetical, the grid provided for 18a covers the ball hitting a player and going into touch.

    It's in the definitions.
Various Laws depend on the ball being played

    The definition of played is

.Played: The ball is played when it is intentionally touched by a player.

    Warning ..
.. Some laws depend upon who last played the ball
.. other laws depend upon who last touched (or was touched by) the ball

    Need to be careful.
    .
Your scenario is one of the latter.
    .
    .

The ball hits a player and goes directly into touch.

Who throws in . The opposition

This a thing that changed after the rules modifications, World Rugby said that it would be easier to understand the rules, but it was the opposite.....

Be careful because it has changed several things as this one.....

an ambiguity was settled - (we used to have endless discussions about whether touching the ball accidentally counted as 'playing' it, or not)

WR settled it - it doesn't count.

Whether or not that amounts to a change, depends upon which side of the ambiguity you previously favoured.

It affects the offside Law, does it affect any others?
