The reason Moriarty fell over was surely because he attempted to lift his boot to the face level of the approaching South Africans and over-balanced backwards. There's a considerable difference between a player being tackled in the air, and a player falling over whilst unsuccessfully attempting to scissor-kick his opponent's face, and my view was JG was quite right to ignore it.

Well they certainly saw it, so no! But if he'd had the ball it would have surely been a penalty. But with his own 'contribution' to the situation, I guess they saw it as an incident. Bit of an inconsistency, though.

The half time chat I don't like though. If a coach comes to me at half time to have a whinge I don't enjoy it, and sometimes my response borders on being rude.
My response is usually something around "through your captain" if I at all aknowledge it.

So did WR put too much faith in the old guard ?
    Of the top four
. .Garces did not (imo) have a great RWC
    He had an ok one
.. NO was on form, but wasn't fit enough. He spent the day after the QF in hospital, and reffed a SF while injured
.. JP was OK . Of course he missed out on his big pool game
.. WB had an excellent RWC.

Have RWC held on to that generation of refs a year too long

Interesting feeback for RWC yesterday at society meeting.

Nigel was never going to do the final. Apparently told his aim was a QF. They were pleased with his refereeing, I guess the SF appointment bears this out, The injury changed nothing. He actually picked it up in the opening game of the season at my club.

We didn't get details on other referees but over all WR happy with the standard. The fact that Nigel replaced an expected SF referee suggets that one referee at least "under performed".

Gardner had a couple of bad days at the office, and Peyper had an unfortunate social media incident. I imagine Nic Berry and Paul Williams (who were both excellent in the games I saw) were seen as too inexperienced.

My guess would be Peyper - he was given a big group game (albeit postponed) and then a QF.

Then the social media incident happened and he got no SF appointment and then TJ spot for 3rd/4th place game.

I don't think Peyper under performed
NO .. though .. I thought performed excellently
I would not be at surprised if he exceeded expectations
