Why just a YC for Mtawarira and not a RC? Compared to the gold standard of the last RWC (Sam Warburton's RC) did WB bottle the call?
Extended highlights with the tip tackle included are here:

Incidentally Mtawarira got away with another one later in the game when he dumped a player onto the ground on his back, after lifting him to a height.

Landing on the bck is not "the Gold Standard" you allude to.

My quesstion is "Did the hand prevent landing on the head"?

The one he got yellow carded for landed the oppo on his head. Why not RC?
The other one wasn't penalised at all.

Nope - his head still hit the ground with his shoulder. Bolted on Red for me.

    Agree totally JB

Not only was WB asleep at the wheel but so it seems was the citing officer!
I tried to download the new Band-Aid song to support the fundraising to fight Ebola but my anti-virus program wouldn't let me

Conspiracy Theorists may complain about WB not wanting to "ruin the game" with a RC in the first 10 minutes, but the citing officer should have picked it up.

The Beast had no real control over how the ball carrier landed and his momentum in the lift took both of them off the ground - no way he should be playing next week.

That is the point. Control and whether we will see more of these incidents given the current emphasis and clamp down on head contact in tackle forcing bigger tacklers to go low .... and will then inevitably lift up and tip?
