    Default Offside oddities #2

asking in a separate thread so as not to bog down the other one.

    red fly hack on.
    blue chase back
blue 7 somehow contrives to over run the bouncing ball which pops up, hits him on the bum, bounces towards red six inches and stops dead at that point. (ie it is not a knock on)
blue 7 falls over his own feet and doesn't move any more for the duration of this convuluted scenario.

Blue 9 is chasing back and is "in front" of blue 7 (ie red side of him).

Blue 9 runs past the ball.
Blue 9 runs past blue 7.
Blue 9 stops, turns run back upfield and gathers the ball just before red can get there

    Is blue 9 offside?

Im pretty sure I know the answer to this one but I want to check!

No, he is put onside by retiring behind B7.

Did B7 play the ball to create and offside line.
I do not believe bouncing off the bum is intentionally touhing the ball.

I was just thinking the same thing. Bouncing off a player's ass is not the same as "Playing the Ball". So no offside.

before locking that in, answer me this:

there has been some hectic play on or near Red goal line. A frantic Red player hack kicks the ball towards touch but it bounces off the bum (aka ass) of a Blue player. As luck would have it, it bounces forward and lands in the arms of a Blue prop who has been having a breather in Red in-goal. He dots the ball down for his first try in 27 seasons. All good?
I, for one, like Roman numerals

Yes. Weird set of circumstances, but it'll teach the Red player to not fly-hack it with a litany of bodies in the area.

I'd blow it up for offiside. There is a general tenet in rugby that incidental & deliberate contact with the ball are one & the same. For example, ball going back into 22.

Does a deliberate charge down create an offside line?
I thought it was touched in flight all on side - but I could be wrong.

Team mates of the charger are offside (if in front of the charger obv)

Team mates of the kicker are onside , as ball last played by the charger

kicker's team all onside. Charger's team offside stuff still applies.
