Default Offside line for 9 at uncontested scrums

Refereeing a game today, uncontested scrums from the start (one side didnít have experienced front row).

After the game, it was pointed out that the offside line for the 9 is the tunnel at an uncontested scrum - I was playing the Ďnormalí laws (offside line is the ball).

Iíve searched World Rugby laws and RFU regs, I canít find anything to tell me uncontested scrums changes the offside line.

    Comments or law references appreciated.

You can't find it because it doesn't exist!

In Wales the 8 indeed cannot pick up from an uncontested scrum.

The WRU don't actually have the authority to vary the Law like that (except at age grade) ...

Correct: Only the RFU can give themselves permission to do whatever they like

    (b) Sections A to C below set out variations to the Laws of the Game that are either pre-approved by the RFU or for which there is an approval process in place. These are in addition to any law trials which may be adopted by the RFU from time to time.
    (c) Any other variations not referenced in this Appendix 2 must undergo the approval process set out in RFU Regulation 13.1.3 and 13.1.4.

    Law 18:
    Line outs
Teams may agree not to contest or lift in the line out

    Law 19:

We also do not allow advantage to be played after a colapsed scrum (at anything below Welsh Premiership level) despite the laws allowing it for about 4 years now.

WR don't seem bothered by that either.

I think that is in the Laws as it's an interpretation of 7.2.g. Advantage cannot be played when it would be dangerous (and my society share that interpretation, so it's not just Wales)

Defining a 8 pickup as illegal seems like inventing a new Law , which is different.

Of course the WRU and the RFU may have got WR permission to run certain trials ...

Assuming this is an adult game?
At an uncontested scrum in RFU land (where you are) players cannot push, and the putting in team must win the ball.
Other than that all other scrum laws still apply. So you were correct.

Uncontested scrum: A scrum in which the team throwing-in gains possession without
contest, with neither team being allowed to push from the mark.
