Default 6 nations on pay per view?

Rumours again of selling out to the highest bidder.
For me it would be a disaster and completely kill interest in the tournament.
Lots of clubs can't afford pay TV so it is disappearing from club houses.
The only rugby I see is channel 5 highlights or 4 when they have games and the six nations on terrestrial TV.
I remember when I used to enjoy watching cricket and knew all the Lancashire team, now I don't even know one player and rarely see games.
I fear rugby would go the same way.

I agree. Though personally I'm not bothered about watching pro rugby. I understand that I am in a minority on that.

But CVC are only interested in short term revenues.
If they could find one person that would give them £100m for complete exclusivity they would not take that over 100 million people watching on free to air if those rights only netted £90m.

The concern is that reducing the free-to-view professional rugby on air will reduce the interest in the amateur game. Cricket's suffered heavily in England from mainly going behind a paywall, a 30% drop in just a few years.

I think CVC tend to buy and hold for quite a while

But anyway, CVC are not in charge. The 6N committee sold a stake to CVC specificly in order to get what CVC have to offer .. commercial impetus

They have hired a bogeyman for fans and press to blame. So far it's working well

CR is pretty much where I am...

CVC hold a large, but minority, stake (30% or so?). So if this goes through it may be CVC that has brought it to the table, but it needs the agreement of the other parties to happen.

They need to look at the ECB/Sky and general interest in cricket before making a decsion.

    They wont, obviously.

I understand the concern. As I posted "I agree. Though personally I'm not bothered about watching pro rugby. I understand that I am in a minority on that."

I can't see it happening. Look at how cheaply 6N had to sell the naming rights this time. Put it behind a pay wall and that sum would be even less.

Look what has happened to viewing figures for F1 and MotoGP.
