Union will win the Union game.

The League game may be closer given how much League stuff is present in Union, which wasn't the case when Bath played Wigan.

In the union game all the league guys will be sent off in the first 5 minutes

In the league game all the union guys will be carried off in the first 5 minutes

We have had some hybrid games at schoolboy level here - hybrid not half/half. Its basically league in your own half, union in the opposition half, with time in possession limited to 60 seconds http://hybridrugby.com/rules-of-hybrid-rugby/

Its about as bad as the hybrid Aussie Rules/Gaelic Football games that are played every couple of years , You take all the best things out of each game and are left with a bland mess

As you say the Union game was a closer scoreline than the league game in 1996 but at the time there was a feeling that this was mainly due to Wigan being full time professional and so much fitter whilst Bath were or had only just turned full time. I also remember Jeremy Guscott refused to play in the matches in case he got injured.

This sounds like an all-round terrible idea.

... and bath couldnt really scrum against wigan as it was too dangerous ie Wigan didnt know how to scrummage against that sort fo pressure) so one key compenent for Bath to knacker Wigan's forwards out and dominate a tactical area was effectively removed

Rule 9 suggests that there are scrums in this Hybrid game.
If the attacking team kick the ball into the in goal area and the defending team touches down or the ball goes dead in goal, then the advantage will go to the defending team and play will resume under League Rules. In all other circumstances, knockons or other infringements by the defending team, then play will resume with a ten (10) metre scrum with the loose head and feed going to the attacking team (Rugby Laws. NB – The in goal area will be at least fifteen (15) metres.
Mind you with a requirement for at least 15 m in goal area, no way this code could be played at the Rec. Currently 8 m in goal, the proposed renovation will increase this to 10, mostly by shortening the length of the pitch.

    Rule 10

Six (6) players (three in the front row, two in the second row and one lock) are to contest scrums, with the attacking side having the loose head and feed. 1:- The ‘crouch, bind and engage’ system applies, with the ball to be fed into the centre of the scrum. 2:- A team in a scrum must not push the scrum more than 1.5 metres toward their opponents goal line. 3:- A team in a scrum must not wheel/screw a scrum past a 45 degree position. (Scrum challenge for the ball Rule).

I think Wigan won the Middlesex 7s around that time.

It was the time pre-super league when Wigan had won 8-9 Challenge Cups on the spin and had backs like Connolly, Radlinski, Offiah, Robinson, Paul (Henry) Edwards and forwards like Farrell (who could play anywhere in RL) and Phil Clarke.

Just started to watch it - Tuigamala too!

I wonder which half would have more kicking?
I watch both codes and it seems at least 50% of RL tries are scored from kicks :-)
Is that not kick and clap ;-)
