you may wish to retract your post on two grounds :

1. New Zealand Working Holiday Visas are only available to 18-30 year olds, for max of 12 months (maybe extended to 23 for UK citizens ) and only if they meet the criteria set out here, such as funds $$$.
2. This is not a job offer - "Please note, the West Coast RFU are not in a position to pay referees, as they are an amateur organisation"

He is probably right. If the ad was published in NZ it would likely be illegal. Age discrimination is illegal over a wide variety of things, not just employment, and it certainly includes an opportunity like this one. In any case, "employment" as defined in the HRA includes voluntary work.

We all know what the ad is getting at, they want to attract people who are eligible to work in NZ, but it is clumsily worded. An Australian can work here at any age, and there are lots of other visas that a person from UK or IRE can get so why restrict it to UK IRE and AUS people under 30?

Still, who gives a rats? Who are you gonna sue, and for what? And why have I bothered to write this?

If the basis for being able to get into the country and fulfil this role is a particular kind of visa that has an age cap, then specifying that is fine.

In the US we use phrase "eligible to work in the US without sponsorship" - it means that we don't have to hire people who don't already have the appropriate visa. It's discriminatory. but not illegal

And in any event, the ad has been published by this forum in the UK (assuming Robbie still uses UK servers - quite possibly an out of date assumption). server geography aside it has also potentially been "published" ie seen in every country in the world. So be careful about breaking US law cos under US law AIUI there is a presumption that anything on the internet has probably passed though a US server/router/bit of electric string and thus is open to US law and extradition etc.

The UK is pretty much identical.

Discrimation can be ( and regularly is) perfectly lawful.

UK govt policy in some areas is that discrimination is to be positively encouraged: the present government, and the previous one, are very much in favour of state schools that discriminate on grounds of religion.

Our local education authority are buidling the first new secondary school in the borough for decades... it's going to be for catholics.
