Dummy Tap

I suppose it is but it concerns me a bit that you'd ask this question.

Blue has ball on ground for a tap PK & Red is back 10.
Blue player swings his foot near ball & Red advance. Blue player: "ref, ref, they're all offside!"
Surely its a quick whistle and "Red, please retire 10" and "Blue, stop dicking around and kick the ball"

This was from a game I was watching today, Black vs Blue. 5m PK. Black fainted at the tap, some Blue players jumped a bit, then while they retreated, Black tapped and ran in for the score while they were moving back to the goal line.

Blue captain asked about it and the referee said it was fine and he didn't have a problem with it.

I'd have the medics on if he fainted.
I'd have had a quiet word if he feinted

Indeed. (Turns out my phone autocorrects feinting to fainting)

Would you award the try, then say 'don't do that again'.

Or

Peep. 'No we are going to redo that. No feinting'.

This was a TV match with professional and international players, so harder to have a quiet word.

"Would you award the try, then say 'don't do that again'."

If I was the oppo captain & I heard the ref say that, I would not be happy

thanks for the link.

nah. Allow that now and it will be rampant across all levels by Christmas.

Oh - the ref did allow it.

All Blacks vs Bulls

for those outside of that region here is a look at it being "a smart play", but maybe not intentional.

That was intentional. I'd say this law is better.
9.27 A player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship.Sanction Penalty.

I think if it happened in my game I'd use ask, tell, penalise but would not allow the try and would order the pen to be retaken initially.
