France V Ireland talking points

Referees in England
Some debate in our local societies whatsapp group
forgetting the alleged forward passes and knock ons
1. At least two mark calls given to France 1 a clear juggle, never caught cleanly , another a contest catch eventually held on the floor by France. I'd have given neither
2. The Dupont knock forward out wide, never in a position to catch it, should maybe have been a yellow, quite cynical and looking at his face, he though he was going.
Thoughts?

I was struck that neither of the early two french tries were TMO reviewed (despite what looked like a forward pass in one, and a fumble in the other), but at the other end both Irish tries were reviewed (albeit given)

And my notes have

Minute 29:30 - Irish player tackled to ground, French ruck/counter ruck past the player and ball, Gibson-Park hangs around the ball until it clears then passes it away, no offside is called.

I did wonder if the actual contact between Fr and Ir players was actually not over the tackled player ball but the irish side of it, meaning no ruck had formed fro the french to drive past... but in which case the french player was guilty of taking out an opponent - and there was no advantage for a PK called either.

Minute 74:10

Ire player doubled tackled and is driven backwards, and it looks like the BC goes to ground but the bodies in contact over him is very loose and messy - players of both sides.. It gets messier and the french 7 ends up on the Irish side of the mess of bound bodies , in what is now a ruck (bodies in contact over the ball etc). The ball pops/squirts out to the right of the irish side and the French seven just drops on it from his "Irish side" position and the French win a turnover from it. No hint from the ref (he even says "play on at the end of this) of anything - possible talking points are the final position in the mess of bodies of Fr 7, and also that falling on the ball in the vicinity of a ruck - no call of falling on a ball close to a ruck etc.

Players must not:
....
d. Fall onto, or over, the emerging ball while it is on the ground near to the ruck. Sanction : Penalty.

Apologies for not providing video links - none of the highlight reels on YT iclude them.
The full game is available on ITVX player thing but probably only works in the UK (or via a UK VPN)
