Clearly a planned move as they do it on attacking throw in. Few forwards jump out to receiver position and the maul has forward momentum as soon as the lineout jumper hits the ground.

Seems a pretty clear transgression of 18.16 and 18.17 to me.

Ever get that feeling of Deja Vu?

Given that perceived wisdom of the collective punditry keep advising line out catch and drives as a tactic are undefendable, perhaps the law makers should reassert the obligation to those that apply the law they are there for a reason. A simple TMO check will always catch this.

noted!
Very happy for a mod to merge this thread. Was impressed by how efficient it was in, and played a huge role in a key contest.

Too much pandering to the the players in the elite game.

Play being stopped at lineout and scrum time so that the ref can explain yet again what he wants from them, square and stable, keep the gap, no huddle, no back chat, keep it up keep it up.

73rd minute in a game recently and the ref stops the game to chat to the front row ??? Seriously they are professional players they know what's expected of them.

Just penalise them, simple really and then teams will stop pricking about all the time.

Do they give a pre match brief?
At that level, the PMB should to be a "Tell" not just an "Ask".
Why do professional players need a pre-match brief covering the Laws? You know the Laws. I know the Laws. Don't take the piss!

Speed of game (no undue delay, want you there and ready to play), advantage (in front and play it if you want, I'll give you what I can), comms (captain only thorough me and during reasonable breaks), yes as each team of officials might do it slightly different.

But try asking a FR how much of the brief they listened to and if it had any impact upon how they tried to exploit the interpretation and con the ref. You'll get the sly smile that you never understand:cautious:

That's pretty much my brief with the addition of confirming Front rows are suitably trained and 18 (i had one match 2 years ago when one was 17!) , I mark defensive line out, attacking team set your gap, Quick taps, ask me for the mark and I'll point to it, Got to see you play it, got to leave your hands. (we get a lot of RL crossovers up here)

Surely leaving the line out? That’s how I see it
