Ireland v New Zealand

"keep the talent on the field as much as possible"

Is this not part of the point? had it been a "fulo" red then Ireland would have been down to 14 for the rest of the game. This policy brought them back to 15 after 20 mins. No doubt Beirne would have been subbed at some point so that particular "talent would not have been on for the full 80 anyway.
yep. I get what you are saying.

But the bottom line is the talent was still not on the pitch, for ten minutes that he otherwise should have been.

How on Earth is this a red card....

Seriously, what is the game coming to?
Do we need to make another thread or just repeat the same stuff different day?

If Berne gets his 20min red overturned by citing committee then surely Lood De Jager gets the same? There is so much mitigation here, and you have to feel sorry for the ref who got forced onto the decision by his team when they have the off field review (and half time) at their disposal.

Because it was a straight red card, not a yellow sent for review.
Yes but sounds like an odd process. If one official (referee) thinks its red, then down to 14 players for remainder of game. If a different official (FPRO) then its 20 minutes.
I'd like to see ALL RC decisions in hands of FPRO. ie ref doesn't even have a RC in his pocket

PS: from TMO report to showing of card, took a bit over 3 minutes

It just makes sense. As one of the commentators said; “the reddest of reds”.
ha ha, and you believe that because you saw it on TV? If it goes red redder reddest, then I expect a 12 match ban.

starting a new post on this one, because clearly it has legs.

So, having read the Committee’s explanation, it does make sense. Although I find it mildly disappointing.

Given the fact that the difference between Red and Yellow is, effectively, the subjective view on whether it is of high or medium danger then they must have determined the latter.

“Other evidence” would likely include the view of Beauden Barrett, who was quite clear that he would help him to avoid a red. Naturally, if he tells the committee that he felt it low or medium force, then it’s very difficult to stay at Red I guess.
Started a new thread on this one - but quite a bit of similarity to these two issues.

big lock on a back
late movement of ball carrier
big difference to me is that Berne was totally static in the whole sequence.

Maybe spurred on by brother Jordie just having a spell at Leinster, but you don't see this often:

Unsure why you put this across 2 threads but in response to the above as it is on here and not the other:
big lock on a back - Wholly irelevant
late movement of ball carrier - And? What point are you trying to make?
big difference to me is that Berne was totally static in the whole sequence. - How does that alter this head impact this week

The down grade may have recognised some aspects of Barrett's plea.

Barrett's submission indicates that he might have been caught out by the same action if he was defending but doesn't alter the fact that head contact occurred.

Also adding that he should take responsibility for entering in a high position might try to remove some of the blame but does not absolve other players for keeping contact low.

Well it is true that I only saw it on TV. I have no other means by which to judge it.
I am not sure that your sarcasm is necessary, so let me be very clear in case it is not sarcasm, just confusion.

I believe that a red card is valid and correct.
The TV commentator believes it is a red card too.
I inferred the commentators phrase ‘reddest of reds’ to mean that it was a clear red in his eyes. I don’t believe that his comment will influence the length of ban, as there are guidelines for this.
