Sacking - what it is?

Referees in Italy
Hi every one;

I'd like to understand what is the sacking and to what rule? and then how to behave the referee in a junior competition?

:italy:

Sacking is the term that is applied to the pulling down of a maul. (legally ie; first contact)

as to how referee should react....play on!

Re: Riferimento: Sacking - what it is?

Just to further clarify, sacking can only occur at a lineout, must be done immediately the jumper returns to the ground with the ball and must be done by grasping the jumper between the hips and the armpits and can only be done to the jumper ie cannot be done to any other player in the lineout/maul

Re: Riferimento: Sacking - what it is?

Why? Don't you risk creating a maul by doing that?
Agreed.

If you tackle him below the waist you are not binding on to him (in the technical sense), therefore you are not creating a maul.

It is also argued that if you merely grab hold of him by eg the shoulders, to pull him over, that is strictly speaking not binding either.

In Australia we do as Anthony has suggested. I've never seen a sack where the ball carrier's legs have been grasped.
