Squint feeds & unintended consequences

Dickie E

Referees in Australia
Did an U16 game yesterday. Both teams quite competent & scrums contested.
At the first 2 scrums I pinged each of the 2 SHs for squint feeds. Definitely not straight, similar to what you'd see on telly.
The SHs got the message and fed straight thereafter but the interesting thing is neither front rows knew what to do with a straight feed. No striking for the ball, ball out same tunnel, collapsing, multiple tight heads, etc during the game.
At one stage I considered asking SHs to return to squint feeds for safetys sake

It's sad I tell you, really, really sad 😭

Do away with absolute power, bring the skills back and teach hookers to sweep with the outside of the right foot to get good attacking ball agains the head.
