Where are you this weekend? - 2025/26

Ciaran Trainor

Referees in England
Apologies to our Southern Hemisphere and North America correspondents but I thought it was time to update the thread.
1st appointment of the new season on Saturday, Windermere v North Ribblesdale preseason friendly.
Looking forward to getting back out there again.
Anyone in the Bowness area enjoying the Lake District, come and have a beer KO 3.00pm!
£6 expenses for bus trip, could do it on the train but will take too long, and a few beers after the game, Happy days 🍻 🏉🚌

Hope all's well but NR seem to think they're at home according to their FB page.

Although it is FB so it's probably all bollocks!

They can't even get the Yorkshire Rose the right way up on the little graphic.

Didn't get a chance to follow up my original post in the prior thread, but I defended my drop goal title (won the Sun Records hat, glasses were the prize from last year)

Off the next two weeks - Club 7s nationals this weekend puts a wrap on the 24-25 season in the US, Fall season starts 8/23

Barnard Castle vs Northallerton - potential to be reffing a couple of lads I used to coach so should be a good catch up

Starting the season off with a bang

Rockford @ Peoria (Mens D3) - opening weekend for fall leagues, good warm-up to get back into 15s mode.

Followed by

Womens D3 Festival - clubs struggling to put out a full side gather to get some live experience.

Doing a double will for sure test my fitness. Projected high of 85F, which is a welcome sign; as I type this at almost 10pm local time, it is currently 85F outside but feels like 94F.

Easing in with a L9 cup match - Bury v Fleetwood on Saturday, followed by a L10 friendly on the Sunday between Didsbury Women and Stafford Women.

Old Boys/Girls in Champaign. Two of us are dedicated referees, so the other usually covers the women, and I take the men.

Dedicated referees are the worst, too much enthusiasm, empathy and integrity. Give me a "meh... whatever" referee anytime.

I'm back! 16 months off with a knee injury (happened during training, just saying, surely a lesson?) reffing this Saturday. #nobreakawaytries.

To fix my knee I joined a budget gym, no joking I am way way the oldest user, but the other users are brilliant, I swear they talk to me in louder voices and look at me training with a mixture of awe and sympathy.

I'll let you know if I survive.

That was very much the vibe when Asshole had the whistle, but once the club pivoted to a more serious competition (opponents featuring current/future capped Eagles), it was agreed that the A side would get a serious game for the first 40-60 minutes. The last 20, it's the B-siders against those with some more grey in their beards.

Hartlepool Rovers vs Stockton last night and then Consett (L6) vs Novos tomorrow which should nicely wrap up preseason.

Four and a half minutes! Torn knee, carried off. That's got to be some kind of a record.

This weekend

N2N - AR2

  • Scunthorpe v Darlington Mowden Park

Interesting opener. Scunny recently promoted from L5 after winning Regional 1 North East (just pipping Huddersfield from an immediate bounce back to L4), versus DMP who were relegated from L3 Nat 1 after a terrible season which saw a number of departures mid season along with a whacking every week - barring a solitary win and a solitary draw.

This is my first run out since May due to unavailability and my one pre-season appointment being bombed out last week.

West Hartlepool vs Percy Park - West finished 4th in Regional 2 North last season and Park dropped down from R1NE so be interesting to see what the gap is like

Enjoy, DMP is my club and had a huge regroup this summer - in a positive way - potentially a couple of lads I used to coach in that squad which makes it all worthwhile
