Where are you this weekend? - 2025/26

WASP match this weekend has been postponed. Completely understandable considering everything still going on

This weekend I am AR2 in N2N at:-

  • Wharfedale v Hull

7th v 13th - Wharfedale in their usual mid table obscurity position 6pts behind 6th and 12 pts clear of 8th place. Hull still in the mire and looking more doomed with every point Scunthorpe (12th) manage to scrape together.

Rossendale v Hull - last game of the season looks like there may be a lot riding on it although there's still a long way to go. Hull, full of mercenaries, with nothing below the first team and no junior set up may well implode if they go down.

Forecast is ok which is good because The Avenues is one of the nicer drives and most picturesque grounds on the circuit.

Friday Night Lights - AR1 for McKendree @ Lindenwood. League game, Lindenwood will probably put out a second side. Last time I AR'd this fixture, it was 78-0.

Saturday - 12pm Liberty North (Kansas City) @ Christian Brothers (St Louis). U19, never seen either side before, should be a good game. Followed by AR1 for Davenport @ Lindenwood, where the hosts will likely put out their top side.

My last second game Saturday gone actually went ahead but the teams changed the KO time when it was time to confirm. That meant I couldn't do it which was a shame. Then got offered my own club which I declined. Would only of ended in tears and people not talking to each other.

This weekend I have 2 fixtures, one each on Saturday and Sunday

Saturday - Beckenham III v Faversham I. A local home side that the referee the previous week had issues with. Lots of pens against them but I don't think any game management was put in place
Sunday - Beccehamians Ladies v Sevenoaks Ladies. Another local fixture. Never know what to expect here. Usually a very casual affair but things may have changed in the past year

is that Beccehamians at the bottom of Corkscrew Hill, just along from Croydon RFC (nee Shirley Wanderers) ?

  • Sheffield v Tynedale

1st v 2nd - Sheffield look home and hosed being 9 pts clear with 2 games in hand over Tynedale. Sheffield are also undefeated all season. Certainly if Sheffield win that'll be it, I'd suggest.

That said there's a slack-hand-full of play-offs to contend/concede to get Nat1 and Nat 2 sorted out for next year.

Tynedale tend not to be too bothered about promotion to Nat 1 and certainly would be happier travelling to Macclesfield/Lymm/Chester as their longest journey rather than Plymouth and God forbid Camborne. Charlie Richards (son of Dean) plays #8 for Tynedale - he does look like his dad.

If Newcastle RB can get their act together there may be some advantage to them (Newcastle) if Tynedale are in Nat 1 - "here, have some money - and a can of energy drink!"

Yup, that is correct. A nice little 10 min drive away from me. They are doing quite well now. Had a couple of promos and had some good work done to the clubhouse. Will be nice to see it after awhile of being away

Well the U15s was a tight affair. 12-14 2 tries each. Binned the son of one of the home coaches he would not speak to me for the rest of the game (was TJ) or after. He just stood on the mark shaking his head at me. Made me smile.

BUCS game tomorrow, Uni Wales TSD I, top (9/9) against Cardiff Met VII 2nd bottom (2/9) so be a lot of running. Saturday is a day off. Sunday Running Touch in Cup Porthcawl L V Machynlleth L. Maybe an Ice Cream on the beach afterwards.

I think I would have had him replaced as TJ. You must be able to converse with the TJs in my opinion.

Friday game - 57-0, about as expected. Was a scorcher (upper 70s F despite a 730pm KO), players started cramping around 50 minutes in. One trainer had a jar of pickles, and I ended up offering him access to mine in the officials room after he ran out.

U19 game cancelled, visitors forfeited. A surprisingly slow weekend, sad more teams aren’t taking advantage of the weather

Late change but still at Carlisle, Creighton v Ambleside, should be a well contested game.
Sadly original ,game, visitors unable to field a side which is very worrying at level 7

Felt like damn summer during the first weekend of spring.

Water breaks easily agreed upon, as it was mid-80s and humid at KO. Field is also on turf, in a bowl at the bottom of a hill.

Center kept the mental temperature down with strict enforcement at the breakdown (home side was pinged twice in the first 20 for side entry while attacking). Tight first half, 21-14 to the hosts. Second half, hosts kicked up a gear and put in 3 tries before the water break. Five more tries came in the last 20, 4-1. All but one kick was missed for a 70-19 final.

Weekend games out of the way.
Saturday was a hard push. The home side are notorious for being difficult and their captain leads by very poor example. This then permeates through to the rest of the side and by some form of strange osmosis into the opposition. Gave both captains the riot act after about 5 minutes and pinged the home side for chat back at one point over a forward pass comment. I'd had enough. Both sides then settled down. Ironically if they just shut their traps they actually enjoyed the game more when they got on with it. (I did get 22'd though 🤦‍♂️. Ball kicked through, hit the post and the defending winger picked it up and did the full length. I was about 30 out when he touched the ball down). Finished 38-7

Sunday, a really nice affair. Away team ran away with it but are top of the league for a reason. No real contest. All played in very good spirit as the fixtures normally are in this league. 0-56

Was great to get a run out in familiar territory. If my flight back to Dubai is cancelled for any reason I may try to pick up another. All games in the UAE are suspended for the time being. Think they are moving straight to semis and finals for the league and even that is looking a bit ropey.

This week another little train ride, and a few beers.
The Whitehaven derby, Whitehaven V St. Benedicts.
A full on feisty encounter no doubt with nothing at stake but local bragging rights

All-Catholic Showcase at SLU High in St Louis.

Usually draws a lot of strong teams from several states, so should be a good test of management.
