A while ago during my search for prizes and items for auctions for the upcoming 10th anniversary of RugbyRefs.com I managed to make contact with former Test Match Referee, now iRB Referee Selector & Head of SANZAR Referees Lyndon Bray. (Pictured Left).

I wasn't very sure what I could ask/beg for from Lyndon, considering that the individual unions are in charge of their referees' kit, so I asked if he would mind answering a few questions. Lyndon replied within minutes congratulating us on the significant milestone and agreeing to answer some questions.

So then the hunt was on, I posted a thread and allowed the members to choose the top questions by way of liking the posts they thought were worthwhile. After just over a week I collated all the questions, and sent them on to Lyndon for answer.

Considering Lyndon's place on the iRB I also thought it was a great opportunity to clear up a couple of areas of law that we believed needed more clarity and Lyndon was again happy to give his opinion.

So, Without further ado, here are the questions that our members put to Lyndon, and of course, his answers:

    Question 1:
We have seen in this year's edition of Super Rugby (especially in the latter half of the season), a tendency for referees to rule that the ball is "out" of a ruck when the halfback has a hand ...

As you will no doubt be aware there has been some high profile incidents where a seemingly concussed player has been allowed back on to a rugby pitch, the most recent being the case of George Smith in the third Australia v British ...

RugbyRefs.com has once again been contacted by the West Coast RFU www.westcoastrfu.com as they have a shortage of refs at present.

In a bid to improve the situation they are looking for referees aged 30 & under from the UK, Ireland, & Australia and can assist with working holiday visas, finding employement, and finding accommodation

The West Coast RFU is very experienced in bringing players to their union, and will use this experience to assist willing volunteers. The West Coast RFU are more than happy to do the same for any refs that would like to come out here for a rugby adventure.

So if you, or any referees you know are interested in an exiting Kiwi adventure, Adam Gilshnan of the West Coast RFU would love to talk to you. Their season is starting soon, and the club season ends in late July.

Please note, the West Coast RFU are not in a position to pay referees, as they are an amateur organisation, but if any refs were to come out they'd have a great time, experience a different lifestyle and improve the West Coast's, and their own skills.

If you think this opportunity would suit you then contact Adam using his email address: adamgilsh@hotmail.com, He'd be happy to phone/skype you to talk more about it.

Adam is very skilled at getting working holiday visa's etc, and is always keen to help with any assistance, and to share any advice.

Don't delay, take this opportunity whilst it lasts, it doesn't come along for referees very often.

Wales vs Eng - Knock on and Time back on after asking captain to speak to players

    Thread Starter: Flish

I’m English, I’m biased, but not convinced the French ref is having a good game. In reverse order; 2nd Welsh try, for me the Welsh winger is in possession as trying to gather the ball, knocks forward on to himself, doesn’t regather therefore a knock on. 1st try, kudos to Wales for spotting...

PK after the try - with a difference

    Thread Starter: Ian_Cook

Saw this while standing on the sideline watching a preseason club game last night.... Player does an Arlo* on the tryscorer after half time has expired, resulting in an immediate YC. After the conversion, the referee blew for half time, but stated that he would award a PK to the opponents...

Player on ground catching the ball

    Thread Starter: JohnP

In today’s Wales vs England game, Curry charged down a Welsh clearing kick and in the process fell to the ground. The ball looped up and while on the ground he caught it and passed it to another english player. Because he is on the ground is he not ‘out of the game’ until he regains his feet?...
