  1. [Ruck] Re: Playing the ball while on the floor not been tackled?

Agree. This wasn't a case of being on the ground and the ball happening to come to him - this was all part of his clumsy attempt to gather the ball, so I'd play on (and for me - same if they were...
  2. [Maul] Re: When is a flying wedge a maul...a maul a flying wedge....or....?

Flying wedge: An illegal type of attack, which usually happens near the goal line, either from a penalty or free-kick or in open play. Team-mates are latched on each side of the ball-carrier in a...

[In-goal] Re: Goal line DO vs Scrum 5

If the ball carrier is an attacker .. GLDO (same as knick on)
If the ball carrier is a defender .. 5m scrum
  4. [Ruck] Re: Playing the ball while on the floor not been tackled?

Well, you wouldn't choose an u14 game as a canonical case to define a rule

    Speaking generally:
Player on floor for any reason
Ball happens to come to him
    He cannot play it

[In-goal] Re: Goal line DO vs Scrum 5

It's interesting, isn't it? They trialled this Law didn't they ? I guess they didn't see many drop goals in the trial.

So teams need to do shorter GLD, so as to be able to chase them down closely...

[In-goal] Re: Goal line DO vs Scrum 5

well, you might find 12.12 and that's doesn't help as it's a different scenario so keep looking and find 21.16 which would tell you it's a GLD.

but it's not ideal, I agree.

[In-goal] Re: Goal line DO vs Scrum 5

    they are not really inconsistent

21.16 says: when it is held up it's a goal line dropout

12.12a is redundant, of course, but is not inconsistent.

  20. [Tackle] Re: South African schoolboy rugby viral tackle video

I think at some point WR will introduce an generalised 'excessive force' law. It's odd that we have the concept of a hand-off that is illegal because of 'excessive force' but no other action has...
  21. [Tackle] Re: South African schoolboy rugby viral tackle video

Everything is subjective, but in my opinion the player was not even trying to perform a tackle, he saw an opportunity to hurt an opponent, in a reckless act disguised as a tackle.

    That's my...

that's not really what the idea is about it's about having better threads, by setting the context better.

We are moving to an intention based system, which is ok, but by stealth , which is silly
