  1. Re: Thank God! At last Nigel Owens enforces (Caterpillar) Law - Use it

DEfinately stick to the "legal" phrasing. We can expect non English speakers to learn the jargon of rugby. We should not expect them to learn personalised phrasing of referees.
  2. Re: Thank God! At last Nigel Owens enforces (Caterpillar) Law - Use it

It's rumoured that God calls him God though.
  3. Re: Thank God! At last Nigel Owens enforces (Caterpillar) Law - Use it

Indeed. So, reading your answer. do you think that WR agrees with Nigel or you on the the incident in question? Do yo uthink they want the the ball to be kept in the extended ruck so to wind down...
  4. Re: Thank God! At last Nigel Owens enforces (Caterpillar) Law - Use it

Well, if they meant keep building the ruck so the ball never emerged from it. They could have left the law as it was. Clearly they put this law in for a reason. My thought is it was to get the game...
  5. Re: Thank God! At last Nigel Owens enforces (Caterpillar) Law - Use it

Agreed. The point of "use it" was to get the ball back in play once the contest is over. This tactic works directly against that.
  6. Re: Thank God! At last Nigel Owens enforces (Caterpillar) Law - Use it

Well done Nigel! Only another 100 laws* for you to read ip on and add to your arsenal.

    * hyperbole for effect.
  7. Re: Does anyone think the 20/21 season will start?

Varient specific. So as Covid mutates the vaccine becomes pretty ineffective. it will mutate. But, in time as with the 1918 Spanish flu it will subside.
  8. Re: Does anyone think the 20/21 season will start?

THere is unlikely to be a vaccination for a considerable time - we are still waiting for one for other CV strains eg the common cold. The flu vaccine is only varrient specific, Normal life has to...

Re: ouch ... this is going to hurt

Sadly(?) sport is getting a wake up call.

Pro sport is, so often, massively dependent on; sgar dadies / sponsorship / TV money etc. How many sports are self sufficient (gate money, bar sales and...
  10. [CLUB RUGBY] Re: Structure and Responsibikity for Referees Appointments and pathway

    Wales

    Structure

    Level one:

Simple multiple choise test. Alowed to referee U7 up to U16s. Appointeed by home club or in some cases the organising body (for some cup events). NO formal...

Re: How Long will He Likely be Banned for?

Might be the cynic in me but "immediate remorse" is parcticed. Tackles like that need to be eradicated. England will not suffer from a ban this autum but I suspect it will be too short to send the...

Re: STE to hook, Wasps Bath

As long as there are FR available yes. So a hooker has to prop or vice verca even though there is no contest. This applies to both sides.

[Law] Re: Why isn't this offisde under 10m law ?

That would be a successful charge down. not a "proper one". Cf a attempt at a conversion one that misses is unsuccessful the other is succerssful,. both are "proper" what ever that means.

    The law,...

[Law] Re: Why isn't this offisde under 10m law ?

If I've got it right. If there is a charge down attempt the 10 mtr rule does not apply. Nor does Offiside in open play.

    HOWEVER,

If the ball is merely "touched in flight." Open play offside...

[In-goal] Re: Try: Yes or No? Or?

There is nothing firm in the underlined words I have thought. It's a try. Means after due thought , and consideration, i say TRY. I think suggests doubt from the word go. I don't buy you claim that...

Well until WR has openess and clarity we will never know. But if the TMO system has to operate with its hands tied behind its back, the system will not be fit for purpose.

I've never understood the argument because one person is a fool we excuse others.

[In-goal] Re: Try: Yes or No? Or?

It the context of a rugby match such nuances of language are dangerous. Surely the "KISS" principle applies:

    "it's a try" = certain.
    "I think it's a try" = uncertain.

    Is clearer
