Re: Pro Womens - Covid laws

Agree. I do not want to see such fundamentals changed.
  3. Re: Thank God! At last Nigel Owens enforces (Caterpillar) Law - Use it

This reminds me of the problems of expecting referees to use foreign languages.

Munster were playing a French team, and at a ruck the (world famous) referee shouted "Laissez, Rouge!" (He should,...

  5. Re: Does anyone think the 20/21 season will start?

There are several vaccines undergoing stage three testing at present. AIUI Covid-19 is a specific variation (with some minor subvariations?).
  6. Re: Does anyone think the 20/21 season will start?

I doubt if we can really get going again until a vaccination is widely available.

Re: How Long will He Likely be Banned for?

Does anyone have any clips of Farrell going low in a tackle? He runs too many risks with his upright style.

Re: STE to hook, Wasps Bath

Do they actually specify the position as hooker? Down in the weeds the team sheet is merely marked FR (Front Row).

I do remember some years ago Olivier Azam was playing prop for Gloucester. He...

[Law] Re: Why isn't this offisde under 10m law ?

The relevance of that line of thinking is that the aim is to prevent a charge down from being penalised as a knock-on. I take that to be because the charger is deemed to be unable to adjust to the...

[In-goal] Re: Try: Yes or No? Or?

    I think you are wrong.

That is not expressing a doubt, but a firm opinion that you are over-analysing it, while I acknowledge that others may think differently.

If the referee says "I don't...

[In-goal] Re: Try: Yes or No? Or?

My whole point was the lack of clarity in the words themselves. Without the intonation you cannot know what the AR really meant.

Of course there are better ways for the AR to express his view,...

[In-goal] Re: Try: Yes or No? Or?

If he says "I think it is a try", then he is expressing a firm opinion.
If he says "I think it is a try", then he is uncertain.

[Law] Re: Why isn't this offisde under 10m law ?

I've looked back at the laws to see what was said before they were "simplified". They used the phrase "waiting to play the ball", which was clearly not the case here. There used to be 7 paragraphs...

Re: Super Rugby AU: Force v Waratahs

An offside player may be penalised, if that player:

    Interferes with play; or
    Moves forwards towards the ball

Interfering with play is a separate offence.

Re: Super Rugby AU: Force v Waratahs

He is not required to stand still. He just cannot legally move forward. Running sideways or, of course, back is perfectly OK.

[Line out] Re: Is double-banking back?

If the player simply passes the ball back to the scrum half from the top of his jump, I do not see a problem. The lineout is then over so everybody has to readjust.
