In today's Times, Rob Debney agrees with Nigel Owens that the two tries in question should have been disallowed.
I have often pointed this out as a flaw in the laws.
A deliberate throw forward is just as much a PK offence as a deliberate knock on.
He said something about clever management but a misuse of yellow cards.
The look on Rees-Zammit's face said it all. He "knew" he had knocked on and couldn't believe his luck when the referee allowed the try.
Some years ago I attended a seminar hosted by Chris White that included soccer referees. One female soccer ref, (by then refereeing at national league level) remembered her first league game. She...

Nigel Owens gives his view: neither try should have been allowed.
Knock-on: When a player loses possession of the ball and it goes forward, or when a player hits the ball forward with the hand or arm, or when the ball hits the hand or arm and goes forward, and the...
I remember Gregan tackling Lomu by holding on to his lower leg. If the foot had hit Gregan's head, would it have been appropriate to consider foul play by Lomu?!
I think your view is inappropriately legalistic, and shows no empathy for the game.
If the tackle is preventing the ball carrier from reaching out to score, then forcing the tackler to release is demanding that he gives away a score - which seems inequitable.
That is my "Mexican Stand-off" situation. I recommend a quick whistle and a 5-metre attacking scrum.
The basic actions of hurdling a tackler and diving for the line are different. The former raises a distinct likelihood of boot meeting head when they are travelling in different directions. The...
14.1 A tackle can take place anywhere in the field of play.
"Field of play" should obviously be "playing area" (see Definitions). We have all seen tackles take place in in-goal - how else to stop...
(Times report)
There's an (apocryphal?) story about a referee who awarded a PK, and when the captain started to complain, he marched them back 10m. And again. And again. At which point the other captain said...
Agreed.
I am not sure it had that imprimatur, but it was certainly what I advised. However I did not insist if the ref made things clear anyway.
I turned up at a club for a 2nd XV game, only to be informed that they did not have a second pitch so they used a local council pitch. "It's easy to find - it's right behind the Primary School." I...
Well said, didds.
Ditto. (both)
I have previously disputed #3 on this site. Traille was being tackled as he passed the ball and was falling forward. I produced a still that shows his outstretched hand is in front of the ball just...
If you're a bridge player, you might have noticed that Joe Biden has bid and made a very tricky "NO TRUMP" contract.
"Contrary to good sportsmanship" is a catch-all provision and can therefore cover a wide range of actions. Some will be really serious (but not covered elsewhere), some trivial.
Having just received my first vaccination, I have decided to stay at home. Again.
(There is no local rugby anyway ...).
