[Law] Re: Jumping or Diving Clarification required

The law examples in the good book show videos of players jumping to catch a kick which is what the law was for, not jumping for other reasons.
I agree with your interpretation Dickie E but I'd like...

[Law] Re: Jumping or Diving Clarification required

    Good debate.
So are we clear, a player in possession diving or jumping for the line can be tackled in the air?
But what if that tackle or attempt results in an injury or a player landing on their...

[Law] Jumping or Diving Clarification required

Thinking about the debate the Johnny May try has created I think world rugby need to look at this and clarify what constitutes a fair competition.

If Johnny May had caught the Italian defender...
  4. [Scrum] International and 1st class scrums, time to stop the clock?

Watching the games yesterday and most games, you can predict when scrums were going to take 2 minutes or longer.
The referees and authorities need to get a grip of this.

    It makes such a boring...

[Law] Re: Farrell Late Hit v Italy

Disagree Flish about penalising the outcome. I thought the jump was dangerous, no need to consider the outcome, it was a penalty for me.
If May had hurdled the defender and there was no contact, we...

[Law] Re: Superbowl - advantage question.

Had that many times and sometimes if the opposing captain is quick enough and says "we'll kick off that way" I'll let him get away with it :-)

    Agreed Jz558, very noticeable.
  8. Re: Southern hemisphere law changes confirmed

Will watch with interest but totally against the red card replacement.
For a cynical team, it's potentially a free hit.
If you know team has a match winning player , with a poor bench, whack...

[Law] Re: Superbowl - advantage question.

Interesting question. For me if the DG is scored advantage over score stands.
I understand the American Football scenario but a different game and different rules/laws so no real comparison.
    How...

[Maul] Re: Maul - Driving or Rolling

From what I see in Showbiz rugby the ref calls "same maul", when ball carrier and friends break off, simply to make his/her life easy so they don't spoil it for the viewers ;-)

  14. Travelling to games, remember that experience?

    https://youtu.be/3TY9F-i0ASo
This popped up on my timeline from 7 years ago when I was Travelling from Barrow-in-Furness to Aspatria along the scenic Cumbrian coast railway to referee a game.

[Law] Re: What's your worst nightmare?

When I started almost 20 years ago it was just a matter of buying a whistle and say you'll give it a go.
In my first game it was my old club Vickers 2ndXV v Keswick 2nd XV.
    I was probably given...

    Re: Bath Vs Wasps 8.1.21

I think the key thing here is, there is no official signal for when the line out is over.
Convention to me was always arm straight up and comes down when the ref decides you have moved off the line...

  21. [Law] Re: Should the ref be able to appoint a Qualified AR?

Good points all round. For the record I have watched games for various reasons. Not only at my former club and there are two in my town.
Couldnít travel due to family commitments so no appointment...
  22. [Law] Re: Should the ref be able to appoint a Qualified AR?

Iím not an appointer, just a level 7 experienced ref.
Iím only talking about a situation where an active, known to all, society ref is stood around watching a game.
    Iíve had occasions where Iíve...
  23. [Law] Re: Should the ref be able to appoint a Qualified AR?

For me it is just a case of having an additional qualified, impartial pair of eyes on the game.
If teams wanted to alternate touch judges at half time, so be it.
In my experience where I ref, now...
  24. [Law] Should the ref be able to appoint a Qualified AR?
