  1. [Law] Re: Ball kicked hits overhanging tree branch and falls back onto pitch

    Scenario
    - Red take a PK at posts
    - ball hits a passing sparrow, and continues through the posts. A few sparrow feathers flutter to the floor

Play on, surely ? Kick awarded.

    6.9.f is just...
  2. [Law] Re: Ball kicked hits overhanging tree branch and falls back onto pitch

i think we have to apply a little common sense to 6.9.f

    scenario --
    - blue are taking a conversion / PK and the spidercam is too low
A the ball hits the spider cam but still goes through the...
  3. [Law] Re: Ball kicked hits overhanging tree branch and falls back onto pitch

Give me a scenario and I will give you a decision :)
  4. [Law] Re: Ball kicked hits overhanging tree branch and falls back onto pitch

This 6.10 which is more explicit than 6.9.
If the ball carried on into touch 6.10 allows you to ignore the spectator and playon (lineout) . If the spectator prevented the ball going out then I...
  5. [Law] Re: Ball kicked hits overhanging tree branch and falls back onto pitch

Although Law 6 says a scrum, I don't think that Law 19.1 really covers it as the last entry is for when "he referee awards a scrum for any other reason not covered in law". But this a reason that...
  6. [Ruck] Re: You're not now allowed to crocodile roll? Really?

It's such a foolish Law, if you are levering a player out of the ruck, the fulcrum is his foot (and hence ankle and knee)
  7. [Law] Re: Ball kicked hits overhanging tree branch and falls back onto pitch

    Ob is right
This was a law introduced in the 2017 rewrite
  8. [Maul] Re: When is a flying wedge a maul...a maul a flying wedge....or....?

maybe rugby would be a better game if one team leaving a maul meant that the maul IS over.... and we have open play again.

    just a thought

    simpler for everyone
    more running / passing /...
  9. [Ruck] Re: Playing the ball while on the floor not been tackled?

yes, you could go that way, certainly.
    For u14s? or for adults?
  10. [Maul] Re: When is a flying wedge a maul...a maul a flying wedge....or....?

    trundling good, flying bad.

it's just a judgement call, similar to joining a ruck: joining good, charging bad.

[In-goal] Re: Goal line DO vs Scrum 5

There is a video of this somewhere , I can remember
    Pro game on TV

The team is fifty point up, and he passes to a mate, so that the mate can have a try

    Forwards !
  12. [Maul] Re: When is a flying wedge a maul...a maul a flying wedge....or....?

    Because it's not flying.
A trundling wedge could he legal
  13. [Ruck] Re: Playing the ball while on the floor not been tackled?

Agree. This wasn't a case of being on the ground and the ball happening to come to him - this was all part of his clumsy attempt to gather the ball, so I'd play on (and for me - same if they were...
  14. [Maul] Re: When is a flying wedge a maul...a maul a flying wedge....or....?

Flying wedge: An illegal type of attack, which usually happens near the goal line, either from a penalty or free-kick or in open play. Team-mates are latched on each side of the ball-carrier in a...

[In-goal] Re: Goal line DO vs Scrum 5

If the ball carrier is an attacker .. GLDO (same as knick on)
If the ball carrier is a defender .. 5m scrum
  16. [Ruck] Re: Playing the ball while on the floor not been tackled?

Well, you wouldn't choose an u14 game as a canonical case to define a rule

    Speaking generally:
Player on floor for any reason
Ball happens to come to him
    He cannot play it

[In-goal] Re: Goal line DO vs Scrum 5

It's interesting, isn't it? They trialled this Law didn't they ? I guess they didn't see many drop goals in the trial.

So teams need to do shorter GLD, so as to be able to chase them down closely...
