    Re: Seat-belt tackle now legal?

I agree, my imprerssion is that high tackles have been all but eliminated at grassroots -- the few PKs I have to give are normally PK only level, where arms have ridden up, or ball carrier dropped...

    Re: These goal line dropouts

Never start the conversation with 'are you familiar with the variations at our age group' -- even if they aren't sure, it's very hard for a ref to admit, 'no'. And some will be sure (but wrong!)

    Re: These goal line dropouts

its hard for society refs to know every variation for every age group - it's always worth running through quickly before the game..

Charge downs are different though, they can come off the hand and are not a ko

Re: Wal v Aus: Coach Verbally Attacks Officials

WR could easily make it illegal to head the ball, but they haven't , so i guess they are totally happy with it.

It's very unusual to get the opportunity, and in most cases would be better off...

Re: Wal v Aus: Coach Verbally Attacks Officials

well I imagine in this game there was a loud shout of backwards, play on?

It's basic reffing to shout when we make a close call, so everyone knows.

because he didn't normally make a decision at odds with what all 30 players are expecting?

  15. [Law] Re: Law Change Proposal - Scrum or FK option after Knock-on

As previously discussed, I would go the other way and reduce the sanction on a ko , rather than increase it , and trial a law change that said that if no advantage is gained from a knock on, then...

[Law] Re: Incorrectly taken free kick

    Great story.
I feel sad because all the refs before that who had let it go, or let him take it again, basically failed him, as they set him up for that mistake in a game that really mattered

Re: Wal v Aus: Coach Verbally Attacks Officials

Yes, but we also don't want the ref to be the talking point, and the centre of the game , we would rather be invisible

Knock on would have helped with that. It's the expected decision

Re: Wal v Aus: Coach Verbally Attacks Officials

Shrug I was reffing I would rather call that a knock on (and potentially find out it went 2cm backward, my bad) rather than have that happen

Re: Wal v Aus: Coach Verbally Attacks Officials

I am not so sure. I think it's one of those situations where the best decision is the one that all thirty players are expecting.

It was a bit of a gotcha

Re: Wal v Aus: Coach Verbally Attacks Officials

yes, I noticed that - the TMO actually tried to tell Andrew Brace about it, but the message was lost somehow - as Brace didn't take it in.

[Kit] Re: Smart Watch App for Refs?
