it wasn't a change that I welcomed. I didn't/don't think that a team that deliberately puts the ball out of play should be rewarded for that.
there are too many examples of players losing the ball forward then batting it back for that to be true.
A lineout jumper who juggles the ball before knocking it back to his SH will never be...
The logic that the ref has applied is that once Red 14 makes contact with the ball with his hand he doesn't then lose contact with the ball until after the ball hits his leg and goes backwards. He's...
I'd be looking for the tackler to release to allow ball to be recycled, but not roll away. In the messiness of this goal line scenario, a quick whistle would not be inappropriate.
to the letter of law, no.
in reality, yes.
Things are dealt with a little bit differently when try scoring is involved.
Consider a tackle inches from the line. Would we require the tackler...
as far as I can make out this "you can't jump over a tackle" is in the same category as "you have to let him up". Unless there is some RFU edict that I'm missing. I've never seen anything from WR.
...
thanks all for the great advice.
Cheers.
more detail please
The purpose of the photo is to explore the concept that the red captain may think that the ref is awarding them a penalty poo-pooed by you a few posts ago (#66)
Indeed, not enough clever wit in the game these days. Had a not straight throw:"captain, option?" "We'll take a penalty, sir". They kicked the winning 3 points from that one. All had a good laugh in...
Fair enough. What is Matt C signalling here?

I sat down to watch the super bowl deciding that this is it, I'm going to concentrate and understand this game.
Coin toss, "captain, you've won the toss, what would you like to do?" "We'd like to...

I remember once doing this and one of the captain's thought I was signalling penalty advantage. At the next breakdown he asked me why we weren't going back for the penalty. Took me a second or 2 to...

This is for elite stuff
Hi all,
I've recently taken on a new role in my Society focusing on recruiting youngsters to take up the whistle.
I'd be interested in hearing of any experiences, innovations, processes, what's...
but none of those are defined in the good book
I take your point about players needing to make their own decisions but it is tricky knowing when the maul crosses the LoT from 10 metres back and it is sound preventive (preventative?) refereeing to...
what did the AR say? Oh sorry, forgot you're not allowed to have ARs :(
we used to have system for juniors whereby if the team provided a qualified AR for the game, then they received an extra competition point. Worked very well. And also a good source of future refs
not an issue here. If someone has done the AR course, then they are fully deputized ARs with no need to be appointed
worst one I've seen recently is where AR calls over comms that defenders are offside. Ref immediately blows whistle ... just as attacking team are about to score the try. Difficult to come back from...
count yourselves lucky it wasn't a FK :)
