[Law] Re: "Why the **** did you do that?"

[QUOTE=thepercy;375823]Your logic would mean that you could never return the ball to a scrum as the scrum has ended when the ball left the scrum, and 19.38.d could never happen.

    Perhaps the...

[Law] Re: "Why the **** did you do that?"

That's not what the scrum half is doing. It's not a knock-on either. There's nothing to stop a player putting the ball down on the ground is there? Tackled players sometimes do this so that they can...

[Law] Re: "Why the **** did you do that?"

Must be a penalty. Scrum's over. Everyone in the scrum is offside.

[Law] Re: 50/22 from a FK

You do wonder what process they follow? As you can see here, it doesn't take too many referees to road test law amendments

    FAO Ian Cook,

Does the lack of civil liability in New Zealand for many personal injuries mean that the impact of collisions are less of a LEGAL (as opposed to a welfare) issue in New Zealand? Or...

Unfortunately you can only access the first two pages of each chapter for free. There looks like an interesting section on concussion too.

Head injuries could be an existential threat to rugby....

    Re: 'Rugby greats' letter

    Hi Ian,

No, of course not. This is exactly what I want to avoid.

As ever, I should have been clearer. I am not against replacements for injury, but we should seek to limit avoidable injuries....

    Re: 'Rugby greats' letter

I'm surprised how narrow this conversation is. The impact of head injuries is not going to go away across all collision sports. It's not rocket science. Momentum = mass x velocity (speed) and Force =...

    Re: Focus for Changes

I suppose both want to make money?

For CVC, is rugby that risky an investment? It's basically about the value of TV rights which will probably rise as global interest in rugby increases. For some...

    Re: Focus for Changes

It is all very well saying apply the laws as they are written, but it is very difficult. A scrum half has to throw the ball into the scrum. It mustn't hit the ground outside the tunnel , but front...

You are probably right insofar as there aren't too many players who can do what Dan Biggar does, but many a catcher will get clattered by someone following up a kick. At junior level we used to coach...

That's 21.1.a ie where a player touches down while holding the ball. 21.1.b is what's relevant here? Or I'm missing the point?

  19. [Law] Re: When and why the intentional knock-on rule was added to the rugby laws?

Hi crossref. I wouldn't go so far as suggesting it's a tactic, but I do think it makes more sense for defenders to wrap late to avoid this. In these situations the potential tackler is rarely in a...
  20. [Law] Re: When and why the intentional knock-on rule was added to the rugby laws?

I was, but I was really talking about the tackle as the ball player is passing, not while still in their hands. When I was playing, you wouldn't have attempted a pass in those circumstances....
  21. [Law] Re: When and why the intentional knock-on rule was added to the rugby laws?

I think some penalised knock-ons are probably not deliberate, eg where the ball hits a tackler's arms. This might encourage a hit with the arm wrap following

That is true, but how often does it happen in the modern 15-a-side game? A quick drop-kick is more common. We didn't always bother when I was a schoolboy as the ball usually weighed a ton after 10...

Re: Premiership relegation set to be suspended

The BBC article was written in 2012 and the share structure has changed, probably when CVC came onboard. However, it does suggest that B shares may always have existed.
