Re: Bledisloe 3 - the sacrifice of the...

You slow down rotation by going from a tucked to a straight position.

When he catches the ball, Jodie is almost in a straight position except for his knees being bent back.

    Raising a leg is...

Ian - going from your third frame to your last, Jordie goes from nearly straight, but with knees bent back to a position with one leg moving to a more tucked position. That is the opposite of what is...

Re: Bledisloe 3 - the sacrifice of the...

A diver/trampolinist/gymnast tucks for fast rotation and straightens out to slow it down. Jordie is never in a tucked position. In straightening out you need to use both legs, not just one.

    If...

    Re: Blocker at a Ruck

    Yes.

An earlier version said the player must not "move or stand" in the way. At one time teams tried to place a couple of players in front of the one going to catch the kick. That was stopped.

I once attended a seminar run by Chris White where Luke Pearce spoke about the process of rising through the ranks - I think he was Level 4 by then. He was the only one of several speakers who used...

I showed the clip to my daughter and her husband (another former diving international) and we all agreed that rotation was largely irrelevant. Any rotation starts from your takeoff and when taking...

[Line out] Re: Asking for Numbers

I have certainly come across the occasional team that will tell the ref "If we say 6 in that really means 5". A sensible ref could reply "I advise you not to lie to everyone in order to obtain a...

Re: Bledisloe 3 - the sacrifice of the...

The mere fact if being kicked in the face is not in itself proof of foul play. Surely we have all seen a player get such a kick when trying to tackle an opponent from behind.

    The claim is that...

Yes. He got his jump wrong and in trying to correct he kicked an opponent. It was Jordie's own fault.

So he threw his legs out to reduce his rotation - which implies he was rotating initially. Why?

If a player jumps in such a way that he has to stick out his foot to control rotation, that player has blundered, and done so in such a way as to be dangerous to an opponent.

    [Law] Re: Preventative Refereeing

There are some offences where the player's view differs from that of the referee eg offside position after a kick.

So we are dropping the "momentum of the tackle" scenario allowing him to score.
