  1. [Maul] Re: When is a flying wedge a maul...a maul a flying wedge....or....?

Under the GLT's such a non-maul would have to be illegal. Only one player can be bound/latched to the ball carrier before contact.
  2. Re: Interesting story reference tackle height. Where will it lead?

I think this is aimed at the elite game. I suspect they are taking a leaf from the NFL's book. Fully padded-up (contact sessions) are strictly limited. They are entitled to only 16 during the...

That is the case in ice hockey for minor (2 minute) penalties. It does not apply to major (5 minute) penalties.

    Re: Blocker at a Ruck

If the blockers are not behind the hindmost point of the ruck they are offside. Their actions are almost always material in this situation, so they should be penalized. I think it at least violates...

    Re: Blocker at a Ruck

The blocker would not be offside at the ruck if behind the hindmost point of the ruck, even if in front of the kicker. I think it is a problem, but it isn't offside.

    [Law] Re: Preventative Refereeing

Speak when you want to change a behaviour. If nobody is infringing, don't say anything. If you call "No hands" or "Roll away" at every ruck/tackle, the players will tune you out.

Re: Charity Game with scrums and new laws!

12.9 gives the receiving team the rekick/scrum option. 12.12b makes it clear what is exempted from the GLDK

An attacking kick, other than a kick-off, restart kick following a score, drop goal,...

    Re: Springboks v Lions

A team battering itself against a well established defensive line will kick from 10 instead of 9. It will be a little quicker, but it won't reduce the amount of kicking.

    Re: Global Law Trials

If we gave a 22 drop last year, and the the trial makes no mention of this particular situation, it makes sense to give a 22 drop this year.

    Re: Global Law Trials

I think the point of the variation is to forbid pre-binding before contact, not before the ball carrier receives the ball. Or have I missed something?

    Re: Global Law Trials

The distinction between grounding the ball and running it into TIG or beyond the DBL is odd. In the 5th video (Hurricanes/Crusaders) Barrett could have gained himself a 22 by running two steps to...

[Law] Re: Contact with the head

I suspect the reduction in the number of scrums in RL is more covid related than anything else given how they are used in league, but I stand to be corrected.

I have reservations about the limit of two scrums per incident.

  17. Re: Wales vs Eng - Knock on and Time back on after asking captain to speak to players

This isn't what you are looking for, but in the 44th minute of Worcester vs Bristol, a Bristol ball carrier lost the ball forwards, then knocked it back without catching it as he fell. I don't think...

Much longer than 10 years ago. I retired from playing 15 years ago and it was a well established law then. Could it not have been in the 1993 changes?

    Legality of the ankle tap

Was there ever a time that the ankle tap was considered illegal? If so when did the change occur either in law or in practice to allow it? The question came up in our Facebook group.
    Thanks
