    [Law] Re: New Touch Laws!!

    Dickie
It was No-side. Now it is play-on throw to kicking side.
But as ever, blow the whistle and confidently give your decision and rely on he fact nobody else knows the laws.

Except that directly means without bouncing, and they want to permit the ball to bounce.

    [Law] Re: New Touch Laws!!

The without being tapped is irrelevant. If it has been tapped it is no longer a penalty. If you want to add that as a clarifying note.
I am sure it could have been written as

    A half ends when...

    [Law] Re: New Touch Laws!!

A half ends when the ball becomes dead after time has expired, unless a penalty is kicked directly into touch without the ball first being tapped and without the ball touching another player.

    I...

[Law] Re: 20.10 behind the kicker at a PK

I had the 2014 law book was the one to hand, as that was when I did the referees course.
So I always followed the new interpretation, but I am aware there was a change as it was in green.

[Law] Re: 20.10 behind the kicker at a PK

The 2014 law book made it clear that it is not a 10m circle round the player catching the ball, it is 10 metre rectangle all the way across the pitch.
Under the old 11.4 (b) a player in that...
  7. [Law] Re: When and why the intentional knock-on rule was added to the rugby laws?

I would just give the line out.
The ball being over the plane does not mean it is dead.
So, his acton of catching it means it is not a knock-on but - assuming his feet are in touch - puts it into...

[Law] Re: 20.10 behind the kicker at a PK

If you spot it, you can penalise them under under 3.7.
If a player re-joins or a replacement joins the match without the referee’s permission and the referee believes the player did so to gain an...

    Re: Penalty Try

Moving under the posts is conventionally how you indicate to the crowd it is a penalty try, but you can whistle, deal with any potential flare up and then go under the posts.

    [Law] Re: England v France - 24/4/2921

I suppose they know all players are pushing the boundaries, but they have to choose which ones to police.

    [Law] Re: England v France - 24/4/2921

Which reminds me of the incident we were discussing.
As the ref had blown, it was an incorrectly taken kick. Under 7.3e it cannot be advantage so depending on the law book either a retake or scrum....

    [Law] Re: France v England - 30/4/2021

I think the TMO suggested a red - I do wish the commentators would shut up when the TO4 are discussing sanctions - but the ref decided that it was only a yellow due to mitigating circumstances.

    [Law] Re: England v France - 24/4/2921

Watching it again, the ref clearly awards the penalty and the French play on. There is no kick, the nine picks up the ball now clear of the scrum and goes.

Now in the professional men's game, she...

    [Law] Re: England v France - 24/4/2921

I think she might have believed she was continuing to play under advantage - so expect that as no advantage they would get the penalty.

    Re: rewarding

I do not understand why referees permit scrums to continue if one of the props fails to bind correctly.
It is a penalty offence and the other side is not going to get a better outcome.
