[Law] Re: What's your worst nightmare?

There's an (apocryphal?) story about a referee who awarded a PK, and when the captain started to complain, he marched them back 10m. And again. And again. At which point the other captain said...

    Re: Bath Vs Wasps 8.1.21

I am not sure it had that imprimatur, but it was certainly what I advised. However I did not insist if the ref made things clear anyway.

[Law] Re: What's your worst nightmare?

I turned up at a club for a 2nd XV game, only to be informed that they did not have a second pitch so they used a local council pitch. "It's easy to find - it's right behind the Primary School." I...

    Re: 5 worst ref decision

I have previously disputed #3 on this site. Traille was being tackled as he passed the ball and was falling forward. I produced a still that shows his outstretched hand is in front of the ball just...

Re: Where are you this weekend 20/21?

If you're a bridge player, you might have noticed that Joe Biden has bid and made a very tricky "NO TRUMP" contract.

    Re: Disgraceful disciplinary decision

"Contrary to good sportsmanship" is a catch-all provision and can therefore cover a wide range of actions. Some will be really serious (but not covered elsewhere), some trivial.

Re: Where are you this weekend 20/21?

Having just received my first vaccination, I have decided to stay at home. Again.
(There is no local rugby anyway ...).

What did he do if any player "quipped" back at him?

    Re: Steve Thompson et al

There is a legal precept "Volenti non fit injuria", which basically says "if you accepted the normal risk of doing something, you cannot blame anybody else if you get hurt". The applicability in...

    Re: Biggar Taken in Air?

Perhaps it should be agreed that if A is waiting to catch the ball, and B jumps to try and get there first, B is at fault if he lands on A. All B can do is flatten A as he makes the catch.

    Re: When is advantage over

My guideline has always been that if a kick is taken under advantage that was clearly voluntary, then the kicker lives with the outcome. Advantage is not just a free shot where you can come back if...

If the kick was taken under pressure, then it might be deemed no advantage.

    Re: knock on in touch

    I agree with Ian Cook.

The legalistic argument that a knock-on can only take place in the field of play is a red herring. The legalistic refutation is that since the ball is not technically in...
  24. [Line out] Re: Frances first try against Ireland - Should we have gone back for a lineout?

We do need the plane of touch in some contexts eg determining where the throw-in is after a kick to touch, as 10.1.2 says.
  25. [Line out] Re: Frances first try against Ireland - Should we have gone back for a lineout?

1885A player may be in touch and play the ball, provided it is not in touch..I acknowledge that judging the plane is tricky, particularly at grassroots. However we have been playing under this law...
