  1. [Law] Re: Maul caught from a kick. How to restart after this one ?

Not since the maul directly follows a kick in open play, surely?

    Re: Championship - no citing?

To advance the counterargument - we have one (grainy) angle, there's a fair bit of blue above the white on those sleeves, perhaps the ref had a better view and it went around the point of the...
  3. [Tackle] Re: Head clash, with force, "accidental" = no card? women's 6N

    Exactly this.
  4. [Tackle] Re: Head clash, with force, "accidental" = no card? women's 6N

Just seen it - looks like a red to me, by current framework.
  5. [Tackle] Re: Head clash, with force, "accidental" = no card? women's 6N

It certainly seems undesirable that the difference between mandated red card and play on is such a fine line of referee judgement. A headbutt, a punch, a spear tackle are all very C&O, now there's a...

Yep, that's the point the ball went "dead".

Haha, I was the biggest of the three, ex second rower here. No-one was injured!

    [In-goal] Re: 6.11.A

I did it once early in my reffing days, 5m penalty and I was badly positioned. Defending player accidentally ran into me, knocked me into the attacking player, I gave the try - fortunately no...

    [Law] Re: Clarification 1 "021

If it's your penalty, you can make the choice. If a YC is 9'50 in when the penalty is given, he can't come back on. If it's 10'10 he can, and play however he likes.

    If you're bringing players...

Haha, never mind making it into the 22 for a score, I think he just about made it over the halfway line!

    Re: Watyagonnado

Blow up as soon as the ball looks to be heading for the injured player - I don't want people racing in with their eyes on the ball when there are injuries/non-players in the area.

    I'd also say...

    [In-goal] Re: 6.11.A

Taking the ball back into your own in-goal is always a risk; it's not the ball carrier's fault if the other team have great line speed and tackle them either. Running into the ref seems at least...

    Re: France v Scotland

Because you don't know if a try has been prevented until the ball is lost/dead - so how can you give a penalty try?

The old boys' team I sometimes play in still has it in the repertoire. ISTR a game not too long ago, I think it was Tonga, did it twice. Can't find it online though...

    Re: France v Scotland

I'd say not. For me, you have to have the ball (or be attempting to receive it), and be heading towards the line or in-goal. Otherwise I get into such shades of grey that I can tie myself in knots...

    Re: France v Scotland

A PT can follow from advantage. For all the ref knows, the SH will pass it out the other way, 12 will score under the posts and there's no grounds to give the PT.

You don't see it much because...

    Re: France v Scotland

Yes, or score in a better position, but I don't take that as meaning a metre or two further infield, personally. There was already a defender sweeping in at full pace and another chasing behind; it's...

    Re: France v Scotland

You can absolutely give a card for foul play even if the opposition get the advantage and no penalty is called.

However, cards are management tools, not sticks to beat naughty players with. And...

[Line out] Re: dropping the jumper on top of a maul

It was Eng/Ire, I think Beirne was "launched" over the top of Itoje; this was in part due to England getting to ground and driving while he was still at the peak of the jump, though.

    At the time I...

    Re: France Vs Wales

I find this interpretation of what happened a bit unusual. TF was lying on the wrong side of the ruck, got straight up and shoved the French SH from behind as he was gathering the ball, clear as day....

Or have the default call be no-try. Doubt about grounding = 5m attacking scrum

If the ref has no doubt he doesn't need to check. If the TMO has no doubt then it is awarded.

  25. Re: Liam Williams' ctions around 15:53 (game time) in Italy Vs Wales game

You see him look around and check himself before taking the guy out.

Very difficult to see during such broken play, but I think a ping if you catch it.
