    [Law] Re: England v France - 24/4/2921

I think that's exactly why they changed the Law to be take it again
Shame it's gone back to being a scrum again

    [Law] Re: England v France - 24/4/2921

I could help with that - I constructed a useful table that does exactly that comparison, highlighting the differences :)

and - gosh - what hostility and abuse that I endured for constructing...

    [Law] Re: England v France - 24/4/2921

it's been a pattern ever since 2017 - each year since 2018 (and sometimes mid year) changes to the text have been smuggled in, unannounced.

EVERY change should be highlighted regardless of...

    [Law] Re: England v France - 24/4/2921

In the old days they always highlighted the changes from year to year. Wish they would do that now.

I don't think the scrum sanction was removed accidentally in 2017, as it was removed so...

    [Law] Re: France v England - 30/4/2021

minority of two, as I agree .... if it was in the sort of game I might be reffing. In that scenario I think a RC would take everyone by surprise, while Phil's approach would have players from...

    [Law] Re: England v France - 24/4/2921

Interestingly 20.11 "Sanction: Scrum" is a CHANGE to the Law in 2021 - that sanction wasn't there in the 2020 Law book .

    which would explain why

they added a new scrum sanction (it...

    rewarding

Very common nowadays to hear referees talking about 'rewarding' a team -- by which they mean giving a PK against the other side.

I am beginning to wonder if this turn of phrase is leading us...

Re: Covid Law Variations for England

yes, I think that's because everyone understands this isn't a rugby law, where players naturally look for loopholes and play at the boundary of what the ref allows -- but it's a COVID thing, so...

    [Law] Re: Law variations

the goal line drop out is interesting to me, as a knock on INTO the in goal, clearly has a different outcome from a knock on INSIDE the in goal. Viz -

Red knock on in FOP, ball travels into the...
  15. [Tackle] Re: Head clash, with force, "accidental" = no card? women's 6N

I surmise we are headed toward the 20-minute replacement rule for RC. That way WR can continue to crack down very hard on what they see as dangerous play, so high frequency of RCs - but without...

Re: Premiership relegation set to be suspended

    Other factors
The premiership is owned by 13 clubs so it makes no sense having a league of 12

Pro 14 and the French league have 14 members so it will help with calendar synchronisation if...

    [Law] Re: Neverending rugby?

I have done it twice (I think).
My memory is that - on both occasions - the team awarded the PK were so confused they took the kick as if it was a normal restart.

It's very rare isn't it. If...

    [Law] Re: Clarification 1 "021

we have been through this a few times -- you can't have scrums, mauls, rucks or tackle in the in-goal, so the offside lines that normally form from those all disappear as the ball goes into in goal,...

    [Law] Re: Clarification 1 "021

yes - although that seems to be exactly what happens in elite rugby where the touchline official seem to let a player on without fanfare or warning (presumably they let the ref know in his earpiece)...
