Re: That's done it for me. Goodbye rugby I'm out

If you could see clear and obvious direct head contact at full-speed at the first and only time of looking, you should be getting changed in a phone booth.

    Re: Springboks v Lions

    IMO...

PK#1. Red 7 had the first attempt to jackle, but forearms on the ground so he was not supporting his bodyweight. Ruck formed.

PK#2. Red 4 was second in with hands to an already formed...

Re: That's done it for me. Goodbye rugby I'm out

The problem here is that it wasn't "clear and obvious" even with several camera angles and frame by frame replays. The only head contact I saw was Blue 8's head rotating forwards towards Gold 11's...

Re: That's done it for me. Goodbye rugby I'm out

    I understand your frustration

This is a problem that Rugby Union as brought upon itself by

    1. all but removing the referee's judgement
    2. having a system where outcomes are judged and intent...

    Re: Another stand-up tackle

    HIA ?

I'm not sure what is in the elite referee protocols these days, but is it in the referee's purview to send a player for an HIA?

    Re: Another stand-up tackle

Twitter user Steve Pierce said it for me

"Great tackle no head contact arms wrapped ... nothing to see here move along"
  8. [Law] Re: When and why the intentional knock-on rule was added to the rugby laws?

Try swinging your arm at a player to knock the ball out, make a slight misjudgment, and clatter the ball carrier in the head, making direct contact, with force? What call do you think the T04 will...
  9. [Law] Re: When and why the intentional knock-on rule was added to the rugby laws?

    Agree.

If a tackler knocks the ball free in a tackle, that is a bonus for him. But, if that is what he is trying to do, he risks either missing the tackle, or injuring himself or his opponent,...
  10. [Law] Re: When and why the intentional knock-on rule was added to the rugby laws?

Almost certainly that is because the player doing the knocking-on is offside.

I've seen top level referees say "play on" when an onside opponent has done that (usually when the scrum-half is a...
  11. [Law] Re: When and why the intentional knock-on rule was added to the rugby laws?

Generally, when the ball is knocked from an opponents grasp, that is never ruled as deliberate.
  12. [Law] Re: When and why the intentional knock-on rule was added to the rugby laws?

    Lineout, opposition throw
  13. [Law] Re: When and why the intentional knock-on rule was added to the rugby laws?

FWIW, I think a clue for referees is "hard hands" v "soft hands"... or "at the ball" v "to the ball"

An example of "hard hands" is a player who reactively jams an arm out "at the ball" in order to...

    Re: 5 worst ref decision

This was 2007... there was no "on field" decision. The referee went straight to the TMO who was correct.

Look in the definitions... I quoted that in my post.

[In-goal] Re: PK after the try - with a difference

Yeah, that was my thought as well.

I think that is game over... the law allows for the PK at the next restart - there is a restart after half time, but not after full time.

[In-goal] Re: PK after the try - with a difference

It can't be a PT because it doesn't meet the criteria. A try had already been awarded so there was no foul play that prevented a probable try, nor was there any foul play that prevented the probable...

[In-goal] PK after the try - with a difference

Saw this while standing on the sideline watching a preseason club game last night....

Player does an Arlo* on the tryscorer after half time has expired, resulting in an immediate YC.

    After...
  20. Re: Wales vs Eng - Knock on and Time back on after asking captain to speak to players

As always with this type of argument, its flawed. The game starts in a different place depending on whether the try is awarded or not, not to mention that the mindset of the players will be...
  21. Re: Wales vs Eng - Knock on and Time back on after asking captain to speak to players

Knock-on: When a player loses possession of the ball and it goes forward, or when a player hits the ball forward with the hand or arm, or when the ball hits the hand or arm and goes forward, and the...

    Re: Biggar Taken in Air?

It doesn't quite quite work like that. The gist of the basketball rule is that a jumping player has the right to a clear landing zone if the landing zone was clear at the moment he jumps.

    If the...

    Re: Biggar Taken in Air?

That's not the way the Laws are written or applied, but I agree 100% with your sentiment.

It annoys me no end that a player is allowed to act with total disregard for the safety of others, and the...

    Re: knock on in touch

Yes, that was my mistake. 2b should have been a line-out/scrum option to black because the Gold player effectively knocked the ball forward into touch.

For those who believe that a knock can only...

    Re: knock on in touch

    Logically (as I see it)
    1. Kick in General play
    a. Ball knocked forward and next touched the ground in the FoP.... scrum Black
    b. Ball knocked forward and next touched the ground in touch,...
