Exactly, but it must have been a conscious decision - after all, they could have just copied and pasted the old definition.
OFFSIDE AND ONSIDE IN OPEN PLAY
10.1 A player is offside in open play if that player is in front of a team-mate who is carrying the ball or who last played it. An offside player must not interfere...
Just to be clear, don't forget the mark is at least 5 metres infield from the touchline. Ie if he was standing practically on the Touch In Goal (TIG) line and wellied it over the TIG or the Dead Ball...
You may have missed the key word Crossref.
I queried this at one of our monthly meetings - admittedly at least 2 years ago, but I don't think there has been a clarification since. :chin:
What I was told is that if we are going to penalise...
I read that bit twice, but what I think he means is 80 metres in total and not 80 metres in one hit.
Same here. It was working yesterday. It isn't working today.
I'm not convinced it is different, but to me the top one looks right.
I'm not going to pick a fight over it though.
Thanks. I'll watch those tonight.
I was taught that if writing a list, the comma before the word "and" was dropped.
How do Nigels Owens' stats compare to other top referees like say Wayne Barnes?
Personally, I just think it's Eddie Jones playing his usual mind games again.
It probably was discussed by those who needed to know. :chin:
Funnily enough I got pulled up on this last season when I let it happen. One Coach wasn't happy his side weren't given a PK and politely suggested I check. I asked around a couple of Refs and all...
Makes sense. Foul Play should trump a technical infringement.
I did politely query it at the time, but he explained that given that the opposing SH has to stay within a metre of the scrum, it was impossible to go past the Flankers feet and stay within 1 metre...
That's what I thought. My understanding was that the ball was the offside line - till the scrum was over, but a far more senior Ref pulled me up on it after my game last Saturday and told me it was...
I suspect I may have got this wrong, so would like to get it clarified.
19.30 Once play in the scrum begins, the scrum-half of the team not in possession:
a) Takes up a position with both feet...
The "Gate" applies to tackles. With Rucks and Mauls, I think the wording says a player must join from "behind or alongside" the hindmost player. If he joins the Ruck / Maul in front of the hindmost...
If you add in Williams and Davies I'm pretty sure you'd cover at least 75% of teams.
I just knew somebody was going to say that.
If it gets too big a mouthful, then they usually have a shortened version eg Carmarthen Athletic just gets shortened to "Athletic" Llanelli...
Like the opening poster, I wouldn't know most of the players first names (at best I may know about 3 or 4 players from each side) so it's a variation on the theme, but where possible I try to use the...
Yes, you can call a mark if the ball ricochets off a post. In fact I'm pretty sure it happened in the recent Scotland v France RWC warm up game.
It may have been the case donkeys years ago but...
A variation on Phil's wording, but I find the easiest way to remember it is
You'd be surprised how many coaches, players etc don't know this.
I remember the wise words of The Percy on here, when I queried the law change; it confused the hell out of me.
