  1. [Ruck] Re: Playing the ball while on the floor not been tackled?

The law is clear, how it's policed not so much, I have seen plenty off elite games where a player on the ground has grabbed and popped the ball when he shouldn't (in law) but is allowed (for...

    Re: Line out maul

This thread, so if happens call to use it (once) then PK https://www.rugbyrefs.com/showthread.php?22194-Line-out-maul&highlight=Pre+latch+line+out
  3. [Maul] Re: When is a flying wedge a maul...a maul a flying wedge....or....?

That was the guidance passed on in the other thread (Phil E from memory), I was inclined to warn and give scrum if ignored too (like accidental offside when no maul). But the guidance was it’s a PK...
  4. [Ruck] Re: You're not now allowed to crocodile roll? Really?

Yes, this, although a lot of poorly executed croc rolls end up dropping on lower limbs so it may end up removing croc roll from the lower end of the game
  5. [Ruck] Re: Playing the ball while on the floor not been tackled?

Agree, material effect was zero, was trying to do something positive and legal, maybe a quiet word later. If however there was an opponent in a position to pick the ball up then it becomes material...

Re: Where are you this weekend - 2021/22?

Enjoy, Stockton are my nearest club, I’m actually there tomorrow reffing their 3’s (original appointment has been Covidified but a game is a game) and it’s 6 mins in the cat not 66 so I’ll take that....

No games for me this weekend, off up Scafell and Scafell Pike with the Mrs, hoping to come down (gently) too

[In-goal] Re: Goal line DO vs Scrum 5

Agree, if you're looking for 'what if attacking player takes it in and his held up' it's not inconsistent, if you're looking for a defending player as the thread suggested, then about as much use as...

FFS *♂️ I only looked at law 21 when I commented above, I thought I had a nice clear answer to the question posed above, silly me!

[In-goal] Re: Goal line DO vs Scrum 5

    Seems so, and if I’m honest I think I would have got that wrong, not that I can recall a defender taking it back and getting held up, normally they manage to get it down or hoof it badly;

    When a...

[In-goal] Re: Goal line DO vs Scrum 5

I blew 1 milisecond before the attacking team wriggled free and grounded it! They'd had a good chunk of time though, I gave GLDO as held up over the try line and took in by attackers

[In-goal] Re: Goal line DO vs Scrum 5

It's made no difference to my decision making, just different outcomes for the teams. In my game on Saturday I had both the usual 'held up' appeals, the boot under the ball (leaning to one side...

So how are unravelling this one? Personally I think two red cards (only blue got one, yet to have the disciplinary / any other citing) others are claiming blue’s actions are as a result of where Red...

’Only’ 5 - 95 this week, I think that’s my first 100 pointer game. Thankfully losing team took it well, no great frustrations or issues to manage, which was reflected in the assessors report -...

[Tackle] Re: South African schoolboy rugby viral tackle video

I fleshed that out (IMO) in #236, the main cue for me was him
diving superman style into the tackle, literally out of control at that point

The issue has been explained from many view points, over and over, you disagree, or don't want to agree, not sure which. Maybe go back and have a re-read, if you still think that's ok then

I would have to see it and judge on it's merits, but as described it sounds like a fair contest, and accidents happen, once someone starts sliding in with boots, elbows leading, starts jumping then...

You're the one that introduced the ball carrier, and I'm pretty sure they shouldn't be 'hitting' anyone, a ball carrier can hand off an opponent, but even then that must be without 'excessive force'...

    Then Jarrovians vs...
