I think there was a discussion on this site a few years ago on the topic about playing until the ball is next dead or not and that (I think!) is where my interpretation came from.15.5.2 No extra time is permitted in any match except that added for injury time.

Why can't the RFU just put their regulations into one document, rather than several, then they would achieve complete consistency of wording.

I've done a quick search of old threads, which turned up mainly debates on injury time, elapsed time v. playing time, not what I had in mind.
What I had in mind was that when the playing time reached the relevant age limit the ref blows up irrespective of whether the ball is in play or not. It feels odd but the ball could be kept in play for several extra minutes of playing time. Any advice welcome!
