Wearing of mouthguards is not a requirement in many countries (including England). Only a strong recommendation.

We do mouth guard checks for all U19 games here. BTW, I'm new here. Nice to meet you all.

There seem to be almost more pitches than teams over here btw - apparently rugby used to be bigger and there are clubs who still own pitches but don't have a team.

I vaguely recall reading that Rugby was quite big in German before the last war but they lost most of their players. In fact, the answer to "Which country had most international rugby players killed in action in WWII" is Germany, with 16. Scotland lost 15, England 14, Australia 10, France 8, Ireland 7, Wales 3 and NZ 2. SA didn't lose any.

Albert Speer, the Nazi Minister for Armaments and War Production was a rugby player.
