Default Shake up among the Elite?

5 live saying there's a big clear-out in international refs:

"Wayne Barnes, Bryce Lawrence & Dave Pearson all to be axed from Tier1.

Paddy O'Brien has been demoted from his position as IRB Elite Referee Manager, and will be moved to the 7's.

Full IRB list published on Monday. Rolland, Owens, Joubert, Pollock, Walsh, Poite, Clancy, Garces and Peyper are left."

    Anybody got anything on this?

If true, then those of us who always had our doubts about WB might be feeling a little vindicated. However, I doubt its true.

WB surely must rate ahead of the likes of Clancy, Garces and especially Pepyer (who is relatively a NKOTB)

Fall out from the "non red" in the Ireland Vs Wales game? Both Pearson and Barnes named!?

Really? You see that as a demotion?

I see that as a promotion, to be leading Referee Management, training and selection in the lead up to the Olympic Games in 2016; the greatest sporting event on the planet, bar none!!.

And it needs it! Some of the Sevens refereeing has been bloody awful in the past couple of seasons, and POB is just the man to start rattling some cages on that front.

The committee agreed that the key areas of the Game identified for particular focus by referees needed constant reviewing. Those five key areas are:

    - All aspects of the tackle with particular emphasis to be placed on the tackler releasing the tackled player and rolling away and arriving players staying on their feet
    - Offside at the breakdown
    - Offside from kicks
    - All aspects of the scrum, particularly the engagement process and front-row binding
    - All aspects of the maul, particularly what constitutes legal maul defence

    And about bloody time too!!!!

    Ian,
rumour has it SD is to replace POB
When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It is difficult only for the others.
It's the same when you are stupid.

Nice try but I'm not biting today.

No-one will be replacing POB as iRB Referees Manager. Instead, the restructure means that the post is disestablished, and replaced with a Management Committee (Lyndon Bray, Tappe Hanning, Donal Courtney and Clayton Thomas).

That's the ultimate compliment isn't it, the realisation by the iRB that POB did such a fantastic job, they need FOUR people to replace him.

I assume this was tongue in cheek so much this happened.

Like he's "rattled the cages" in the 15 a side game you mean? Such as the "straight feeds will be policed" edict? Bwa Ha Ha!

You're having a giraffe Ian! The bloke is all mouth and no trousers. Its a demotion - clear as day. He hasn't sorted out the things he said he will, and he's been put on - WADR 7s afficianados - the circus job to keep the clowns funny.
